well, I never really stopped working out....I work out 5 times a week now, I just can't work out as intensely as I used to because of all the extra weight (it makes it very hard!)

As for the fruits and veggies...I'm a vegetarian, so I think I've got that covered :).
  • I wax. because I inherited my dad's eyebrows and apparently his ability to grow some fierce lambchops...

if i didn't wax, you wouldnt be able to see my ears for the tufts of hair.

but, so what?? it's cool...I like the pain of a good wax job. ;) means i am breathing

I like getting my eyebrows waxed. hurts like hell and gives me red stripes for like 2 days, but it's kinda fun....

Vegetarian and you work out five days a week? Something is wrong then. Its obvious you are burning more calories then you are consuming right?
Are you getting up a good sweat?
Since you started to work out, how much have you lost?

um, I started working out 10 years ago and never really stopped. I can't say anything about "since I started working out."
As for sweating, I work out as hard as I can. As I said, it's just that with extra weight it makes everything harder. For example, my favorite distance to run is 7-8 miles. I've always run this distance when I go for outdoor runs. But the difference is like 40 lbs ago I could run it at 8-8.5 min/mile pace, while now I'm running it at like 10, even 10.5. hills are a lot harder, and I can't do my cross training work out anymore. Now I just do a very basic cardio/strength training routine.

I gained weight because my life changed, different foods were eaten at different times, work outs were compromised, medicine was screwed up, and the boyfriend...I don't lose weight unless I almost starve myself, so once I put it on, it's not coming off unless I go back to almost starving, and I can't seem to do that at the moment. You have to understand that before I gained weight I was just unbelievably careful about everything and then when I had to be a little less careful, weight went on. I can gain 10 lbs in like a day. I'm not kidding. I just have a really messed up body. working out isn't going to make me lose any weight, because I always work out. it's like my starting point.

that might be the prob, actually - fiber in fresh veggies/fruit can impede weight loss. Also, we veggies tend to eat more starch to "fill" when we dont get the right amount of protein. one last thing, be sure that you are really getting the amount of veggies you need- corn and potatoes shouldn't "Count" since the first is a grain, and the second (while it is a veggie) is a lot of starch...both can cuase weight gain if they are primary foods in your diet.

beans can do the same thing...

and if you eat a lot of fruit, there is a lot of sugars that convert into energy in fruit, so fast into energy that often a workout will just use the fruit energy up and not work off the stored fat.

here is a good trick. drink nothing but water. nothing else at all - (even unsweetened drinks)

eat only 2 servings of fruit a day ( 1/2 an apple is a serving, you know) and load up on the veggies...limit the starch-veggies, and the grains. and try to make sure that your protein is up. try that for a while, and as you exercise, you might see a difference, good luck

Exhilarating?!?!?! gahhhhh!!! I hate it. I don't mind the part above the brow, but the skin underneath hurts like hell! It usually burns some of my skin off too. Any way to prevent this?

oh no I just became veggie six months ago- I had already put on all the weight.

I don't eat that much fruit at all really. most days I have none, or I have a pear.

I only drink water and chamomile tea most days. I drink at least a gallon of water every day.

and um...fiber is good for you.

I get plenty of protein, I'm a tofu and egg white junkie.

and oh god, I would never eat corn and potatoes on a regular basis! do I look like I was born yesterday??? The glycemic index is not news! (I love how people think everyone who has gained some weight has no concept of basic nutrition)
  • Exhilarating?!?!?! gahhhhh!!! I hate it. I don't mind the part above the brow, but the skin underneath hurts like hell! It usually burns some of my skin off too. Any way to prevent this?

    oh yeah underneath is killer!

no I don't run 7-8 miles every day. I do a long run 1-2 a week. the other days I work out in the gym.

My ideal weight given my bone density and the level of lean muscle I want to maintain (it has little to do with height) is about 155. I now weigh about 195 give or take.
  • Exhilarating?!?!?! gahhhhh!!! I hate it. I don't mind the part above the brow, but the skin underneath hurts like hell! It usually burns some of my skin off too. Any way to prevent this?

ouch!! Yeah, the underneath part can be pretty awful if they don't do it fast enough. I don't know what to tell you about your skin coming off, though. Maybe it's reacting harshly to the wax? I know that when I was in the hospical for a c-section, they put surgical tape over the incision and when they removed it, I lost some skin and it hurt like a bastard! The doctor told me that it was because I had a sensitivity to the kind of tape. So maybe there is some kind of connection there?

Still hard to believe given how much you work out.
    Hang in there.

what most people don't understand is that weight gain or fat gain is not black and white. every person is different. it's not hard to believe. plus working out only makes you lose weight if you're JUST starting. once being fit is your starting point, it really can only downhill from there.

Yeah...I don't understand it...I guess my skin is sensitive...I try to moisturize it really well before...it doesn't always happen, and sometimes is worse than others. I hate that! I can feel it rip right off

All I do to take care of my craniul sprouted hair is get an electric razor, set it on the closest setting and shave my entire skull - face and head. All of my hair is the same very short length. Yes, much like Brad Pitt in Fight Club... or at least that is what everyone says I look like. Right? Right. I do shave below the chin line and down onto the neck with a real razor.

I do this because the last time I was wrestling a grizzly, I had super long cherokee warrior style hair but at one point it got all tangled up in his claws and he nearly got a hold of me. phew...

I have what I call a lazy beard.

it's deeply untidy. I just can't be arsed shaving. If I have a reason I will.

Goodness "Any way to prevent this" are you kidding? I'd be changing salons, the wax should never be hot enough to remove skin, this would cause long term damage and scarring.
I love getting waxed. The skin feels so clean and my eyes look great, make up lookers better and stays on longer.

I guess that makes me a dork by some people's standards, but my wife loves and doesn't want me to shave it. That's just fine with me because I hate shaving and the more facial hair I have, the less I have to shave.
