I bought a used ventless fryer for my store and it was supposed to be in good condition. Well long story short it had many problems.
I spent 2 grand on it and it needs another thousand worth of parts and labor.
I am trying to fight it throught paypal and ebay but its such a pain in the ass.

I sell guitar equipment and buy guitar equipment on ebay. I have never had a problem. What happened to you comes under the heading fraud, at maximum. Get the original description and document all the ways the original or ebay description does not match the product as it was received. Also, establish that the damage was not due to shipping. Contact the buyer first telling him/her that the object does not match the description. Did the seller have a return policy? Also let the seller know that you will not be able to leave positive feedback. This is a legitimate reason not to leave positive feedback. If you cannot reach an agreement with the seller on either returning some of your money or some other form of restitution, contact ebay. They will help.

I bought a cell phone a few months ago, got it and one day I went into a meeting, turned it off and it never turned on again.....

Basically, I was SOL. I felt kind of cheated. Especially since I'd only had the thing maybe 4 or 5 days and didn't even drop it or anything. Nice waste of $150 + Shipping.

I don't think it was even refurbished. Bummer...

  • I bought a $100 Rubbermaid giftwrap storage container last year for a friend of mine for her birthday. It never came. I emailed the seller and got no response. eBay told me to come to an agreement with the seller. It was this stupid cycle...so i just ate the $100 loss. :(

Yes, numerous times. Now, I always make sure the seller is insured for $2000 in buyer protection & has a feedback score of 98% or better.

I bought an 8gb mp4 player off ebay. It took 3-4 weeks to get to me and was actually only 2gb. That is probably a good story about buying on ebay.

I bought my first ever item off ebay last week. Asked for them to send it on the 12th, so will see in a few weeks if I get screwed over or not. The guy is in good contact and has good feedback so I'm not too worried, but there's still the niggling at the back of my head.

I bought two compact flash memory cards about 3 weeks ago. I haven't received them, so I went on ebay to see if I could contact the seller, the seller doesn't exist anymore. Don't think I'll ever see the memory cards. I requested the user's info and got a phone number for somewhere in China. I've had to wait quite some time for items to arrive from Asia in the past, so I'll give it another week or two (even though I needed these items for Bonnaroo this week) before I contact ebay.

I've done over 2000 deals on ebay (sad, I know :p) and only had two bad experiences. One was no big deal; the other was U2 tickets. On that one, all the red flags were there but I was desperate. BTW, ebay, Paypal, Visa and Ticketmaster couldn't have cared less. I had enough info for any of them to go after the scumbag, but they chose not to. Oh well.... as it turned out, I couldn't have gone to the show anyway.

Bottom line, I love ebay! :D

Sorry to hear about your problem.

I've always been very dubious about using Ebay, I remember winning a bid for a Pearl Jam cd about 5 or 6 years ago, I didnt have Paypal, and the seller kept emailing me telling me to send a cheque, turned out he eventually got banned from Ebay for being a fraudster and luckily I never sent a cheque, so I've stayed clear of Ebay. But at Christmas 2007 I was desperate for a Nintendo DS for my girlfriend, totally sold out in all shos, so bit the bullet and got it off Ebay. It came on the day the seller said it would, 3 days before Christmas. I bought another one for myself off another buyer, and a crappy gimicky thing for a tenner a few weeks ago. I'm still dubious about Ebay and totally avoid it if I can....only as a very last resort will I use it again.

I bought a $300 coffee table...3 weeks later it still hadn't arrived...so I tried to contact the seller and they no longer existed...turns out that they had established a fraudulent company  I used my visa bank card to buy it...and had saved all the emails etc. I was lucky - my bank refunded me the money within the week. They offer some kind of buyer protection - I just had to show them all my documentation.

Someone tried to rake me over the coals saying I had never paid...long story short, paypal got involved, and took care of things. They were on top of it, lemme tell you.

I know someone who paid for an expensive camera, but received a brick instead.

Luckily, the guy was a pretty huge douchebag and totally deserved it. ;)
