How Many Olympic Medals will Canada Win this year?

12? 22? 8?

Personally, I think we might win 3 - two in trampolining and one in kayaking...maybe one in mens rhythmic gymnasties... so, 4? Nothing like the olympics to make us laugh at ourselves!

Edit = 08-08-08
OK...women won the first soccer game...

And I think the two events we had today involved Men's gymnasties and dressage...Ian Miller is in some of those equestrian events, so there's a chance for gold there. I am now increasing my first guess at number of medals to 10 - with 3 golds...

Will continue to update as the games go on...and will cut and paste other results that you guys post in this thread....Go Canada!!

Edit: 12-08-08.....0-canada.... No medals, but we're sure trying!! A few 4ths here and there...Just wait until next week...then we'll start grabbing the gold! But we've got heart...the men's gymnast we had in Beijing had broken both his legs 18 months ago and came back to qualify for the games...that's pretty cool...

UPDATE!!!!
16-08-08 - YAY!! Three medals within an hour!! A GOLD and a BRONZE in wrestling and a SILVERin rowing!! Yahooooooo!!! Canada is now 25th in overall standings, up from 55th.

Only if there's a Pabst drinking event (EV trucker hat will be part of Canada's official uniform), sitting at the side of the Sea to Sky highway counting cars and noting "foreign" license plates.

C'mon - remember Perdita whatshername who all our hopes and dreams were pinned on for track and field gold? Look what happened! She tripped on the FIRST hurdle, and that was HER event....I still laugh about that. Only in Canada? Pity....

If it aint winter events, we don't exactly shine...although we did get 22 medals in Atlanta...

Looking at the last 5 Olympics, Canada has won 3,7,3,3 and 3 gold medals respectively. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say 3. ;)

The biker? Simon Whitfield? I think he's in Beijing this year... and we've won a couple of medals in Mountain Biking and such...What was that girl's name from Manitoba? Clara? She won two in Atlanta, no? And we've won a couple of medals in diving and swimming. But we have no BIG athletes to watch for this go round..

Anyway...I shall update this as the games go on..and offer a critique of the events I watch.

THANK YOU!!! That guy had his fifteen minutes here for sure. Cool that he is back again. Clara yes... wasn't her sister in some crazy car accident this year? Can't recall her last name..

I usually just watch the winter ones and then only hockey... oh how sweet was Salt Lake City ;) don't mention Torino though :o although seeing PJ in Torino was sweet :)

yes, clara hughes. both an olympic speed skater and cyclist. :) two bronze medals in cycling, and one bronze in speed skating...the only Canadian, and just the fourth athlete in history, to win medals in both winter and summer games.
  • ...oh, and we will win no medals as half our athletes will return home early with illnesses and breathing problems. the rest will pass out during events, struggling against the chinese "x factor"...the toxic brown clouds of smog that they have made their own athletes immune to by implanting them with breathing apparatuses.

    Neither have I.

But, Canada has not finished with a medal plenty of times. Because they just aren't very good.
