Former WOWer here. I played it for a while, had some fun times because of the game, but not like you'd think. My friends and I would play this game at each others house and get bored and go out to eat at 2am and such, that was fun.
But yeah, the game can get very addicting. Obviously not quite to that point because it was annoying hearing people yell at you because you 'stole aggro.' I'll never play again, but had fun while i did.
Ohhh how I miss those games! I only played WoW in Beta and got bored with it quickly. Now Everquest...that is an addictive game! The game keeps track of the hours played and people had years logged into the game, it was crazy!
Unfortunately with school and having a life I didn;t have time to play anymore :P
Oh and we couldn't talk while playing...that would just ruin the game to hear a 13 year old kid yell at me :P

i play my 360 well over 5 hours a week and believe i have 'a real life'.
when i get home from work i jump on for about 1 hr until my wife gets home then we get things done.
i try to only play when shes not home or when she's asleep.
You say you play for "well over 5 hours a week", but you also say you play for about an hour until your wife gets home, which would be 5 hours exactly.
Unless you are logging more xbox time on weekends.
People have their priorities. Others love Pearl Jam they spend hours listening to it, downloading, watching youtube, collecting... etc.
others spend a LOT of time playing sports, practicing, etc.
Others spend lots of time shopping, others drinking beer and getting high.
Some people prefer to play computer games. THat doesn't make them losers or pathetic. It's what they prefer... it's what they love.
i'd play a game for 1o hours straight if im hooked and i love it. there's no problem to it. i'd prefer to play my favorite games for a whole week than go swimming or partying. being alone does not make me pathetic.

I see your point. We all have our obsessions. However, I hate to see people who could be socially well-adjusted, shrink into their own little fantasy world and miss out on a lot of great social interaction.....REAL social interaction, because they became obsessed with a game.
Downloading Pearl Jam, well.....I can hit "download" and go play with my dogs, go on a date, have dinner with my family....all while thats taking place.....and although I listen to them alone sometimes, I really pefer to go to concerts to meet other fans, and prefer to listen with friends......

which before, was every night...but then i realized the importance of just being around my wife.

Its one thing when you and three friends get stoned and play MarioKart for 10 hours because you feel like it one day. (Which I did)

I was complaining about the fact that his game addiction is greatly effecting the prime of my life, not judging or calling him a loser. Last year this guy was my best friend because I wasnt around him while he played his game, now I am all the time.
I cant have people over in my room without everything being awkward and because I am considerate. When I go out, I cant bring people back to my room to hang out like most people can, I especially cant have any alone time with a female. I most importantly cant study without being annoyed. Im all for him having his time for his game, but I should be allowed time to study without walking to the library far away from things that i like to do while I study.
Also like others said, people that hide in their fantasy worlds and cant interact with real people and if they do they considerate 'awkward' like he does, are losers in many ways.

I used to play The Sims online sooooo much when i was a freshman in high school. I was afraid to interact with new people, so I hid my little virtual sim world. I would say I was a loser, but now Im not and love meeting new people and interacting with anyone with something interesting to say. Its clearly a better, more fulfilling feeling.
