..doesn't give you the right to assume I'm a failure as a human being or in any way "less" than you!!

not all customers treay me/us like something nasty they just found from the soles of their shoes but even one is one too many.

I actually like this job, I've said before it's not rocket science and it isn't. but it pays my bills and it's flexible enough so I can take days off without the boss frowning at me.

but some people that come in.. they just make me mad! the way some folks (mainly women, I must admit) look at me makes my blood boil. also, if I say hello, is it really that difficult to say something back?

ARGH!

I went into a video shop once and said "can i rent Batman Forever please" and the guy said "no you can rent it for 48 hours like everyone else"
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

heh, my sis worked at a video store through college, and sometimes she got the same attitude! for the most part ppl were cool though, asking her opinion on movies and such. i tell ya, parents really don't look at the ratings on movies these days! she said it was hilarious when "jay and silent bob strike back" came out. every day there would be furious parents coming in saying i can't believe i rented that for my kid!!

I don't.. just cause we're on the same message board doesn't mean we watch the same stuff from TV. ;):p

In which case, I highly recommend the movie "Clerks", dir by Kevin Smith. To a lesser extent, "Clerks 2". Check it out if its in store stock. Enjoy!

People could be so rude. I'm polite to everyone even if they are being rude to me.

Thats cool man, nothing wrong with working at a movie store. Im a stay at home dad and people think im a loser and a bum. My wife makes plenty of money. She went to college and I didnt. So I stay home with the baby. Even if I did work my check would be going to a babysitter, so fuck it. But my whole point was I filled out a app. at Block Buster for something part time, and I really really hope I get the job, it would be so much fun to make fun of customer after they walk out. Get free movies and all that stuff. Like my dad who goes in BB and gets a soft porn, Emammuel or something cheesy.
    I'll be back

    Thats what i'm talking about!
  • I worked in a video store for 7 years so i know exactly where you're coming from. A guy called one time and asked for the movie "Pat Riot" i was all wtf until he said "it's listed on your board!" Then i realized he meant the movie The Patriot.

i hear ye girly - customers can just be cunts, simple as. After working in a dept. store for a few years, I'm now overly polite to everyone that serves me in shops, pubs etc... I figure one nice person a day could help ye get over the few arrogant people ye have to put up with! *hugs*

Emmi, it's because too many people think of others/themselves as the jobs they do, rather than the people they are.
I think I read somewhere recently...oh yeah, 'Into the Wild', Chris said careers are just a 20th century invention...something like that :D
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
  • Most people suck.

Personally, I make a point of it to be extremely nice to everyone and hope that karma comes back around someday. This is about the only thing one can do if you're up to your neck in dickheads.

The best part of my day is when I'm on the road for work and I can tip an exorbinate amount to a waiter/waitress on the company card. I LOVE IT!!! I've tipped 100% before on large tickets and it makes my day.

I used to work at a video store and people would go nuts if we didn't have the movie in stock that they wanted to rent. I always figured if that was the worst thing that happened to them all day they were having a pretty good day. The way they treat you is a reflection of them and the way they feel about themselves - not about you. Let them move on out of the store and continue living with their miserable selves.

    Emmi,
Pay them no mind. You have a job and you're earning your living. That's all that matters. And that you are happy!

My dad's in a nursing home and I saw him yesterday. The nurse's aide asked me to push the wheelchair behind him while he helped my dad when he was walking on his walker.

So afterwards another aide told me thank you for doing that, some people say to her "that's not my job!" with an attitude. Some people just have a holier than thou attitude, Emmi. Like I said, pay them no mind. Don't let anyone steal your joy

Now now, that isn't always the case. I'll never forget when I was at a store looking for the Dave Matthews Band Live in Central Park DVD. I took a copy of the cd up to the counter and asked, very politely, "Excuse me do you have this on DVD?" The girl at the counter gave me a very puzzled "huh?" So I asked again "Do you have this show on DVD?" After a pause she replied "Uh, do you mean, like, uh, to watch it?" The freaking girl was in the electronic section and didn't know the difference between cd's and dvd's.

I worked at a video store in college and had a great time. I actually made good friends with some of the "upper class" folks who frequented the store, such as a doctor and a veterinarian. I'm not doubting people treat you like crap, since most people tend to be self-involved jackasses, but I had good experiences there.

Okay, ..so i generalized there a lil bit. There's usually at least one village idiot at every workplace....maybe you found the one in that store ;)

I've moved across the country and haven't worked at the video store for 3 years and i still get christmas cards from some of the stores most frequent customers. It was a job that i had a seriouis love/hate relationship with.
