Skiing/Snowboarding

I just learned (at 31) how to ski this year. It is so much fun. My 3 and 4 year old are faster and better than me, which is fine. I wish I had skied my whole life. I love it. And I'm only 45 minutes away from Donner Summit, where they have 160 inches of snow, but I can go home where I have zero snow.

Anybody else enjoy winter sports?

  • Love snowboarding, but haven't been able to go in about a year. I'm trying to plan a trip out to Colorado/Utah area sometime soon.

  • Yep, I've heard that while California gets the most snow, it's also the wettest snow. I guess Colorado has the best snow.

I learned to snowboard at 40....because my hubby and sons all do it. We also live with in 15 minutes of 4 different slopes, and 3 other bigger mountains are 1.5 hours away. I haven't been doing it as much anymore....my sons are off with their own friends, and I'd rather hike or snowshoe with my free time.

Enjoy....it is the greatest to have your very own Winter sport, truly gives you something to look forward to when the cold weather hits.

On my very first run last year, I caught the front edge while hauling balls and ate shit and broke a couple of ribs. Still, I got up and made it to the bottom. Boarding with broken ribs is no kind of picnic. You can still feel the misplaced bones through my skin.

  • I've downhill skied on and off pretty much my whole life but I've never really liked it and have never been good at it. it makes me too scared. in the east the conditions are really icy and it scares the crap out of me.

but I do like cross country skiing. only problem is no one else does.

Glad you're in on the downhill fun!

    Winter time is the best!

I've been Snowboarding for quite a while. It feels good to be up in the mountains with a foot of fresh powder under your feet. I had 3 days up at Mt. Hood last week.

Basically if you live in the NW, this is the year you need to be going. The best conditions in about 10 years out here.

Oregon's been getting pounded! All the great storms that have left us 10 ft of snow went through Oregon and Washington 1st. :)

Soda Springs is supposed to be one of the snowiest places in North America. I spent a long time in 5 mph traffic going through there 2 weeks ago during the blizzard. Crazy snowstorms in the Sierras, but incredible skiing. Try Kirkwood sometime, great place, huge, and so much varying terrian. Avoid Boreal, aka Boringhill. Cheap to ski, but sucky. I just got new skis for my birthday too! Such a great year in the Sierras for skiing.

I heard Mt. Rose is the shit as well. Kirkwood is awesome. I was there and there were 60 mph winds and it was snowing 2 inches an hour. Nuts!!

Whistler is the Best place I've even been too for Snowboarding. Mt. Baker being a close number 2. You'll have fun for sure. It's Party time all the time up there. Mt. Hood is still getting blasted. Another 3 feet last week and more coming :)

I'm going to Sugar Bowl on Monday, if anybody else is up there I'd love to get a drink with you!
At this point, my 4 year old now goes down black diamond runs. She's fantastic! It's so cute to see this little tiny girl in a big helmet skiing down the steepest parts of the mountains.

I just got back from Whistler, that place is so freaking unreal. It puts the Sierras to shame. We arrived on St. Patty's day and were greeted by tons of Australians just waiting to party. The Whistler and Blackcomb mountains were so awesome to ski on. It seemed to take over a half an hour just to make it down the mountain because it's so BIG!!! The scene there is so much fun and the rooms were not as much and I thought they'd be. I'm already planning next years trip up there.

The place is the sickness for sure. I hiked to the top of Blackcomb glacier and hauled ass to the village and it took 45 min. :)

Crazy to think that all of Tahoe's resorts could fit inside of those mountains. I hope you enjoyed the waitresses at Longhorns ;)

It is pretty nuts how big the place is. We skiied the peak of Whistler and it had to have taken us well over half an hour to get to the village.

Yeah the waitresses at Longhorns... it was a difficult task to watch them without my wife watching me!! Definitely good Poutine there!!
