and it is kind of bulky compared to the newer ones. I have a Canon A80. (Got it back in Summer 2003)...I so need an upgrade. This camera has been with me for so long now though :(

The reason I ask is that I have an A75 (3.2mp) and it takes brilliant pics, with no noise, even at low light. To me this is more valuable than a high mp camera, because most of the high mp compact cameras come with a lot of noise. It's to do with the fact that the compact point and shoot cameras these days still have small sensors which doesn't allow the masses of pixels being crammed onto them to handle light very well, so you get a lot of noise. (Personally I think there is a trading standards issue there but that's another issue!)
Anyway, last year I treated myself to a Canon powershot S3 which is a bridge camera and has 6mp and 12x zoom. I love it to pieces but it does have a lot of noise, which is disappointing.
Because it's too big to carry around every day, and my A75 screwed up too, I just bought a new canon last month - the A720is to replace the A75. So far I love this camera and would recommend it but like all higher mp cameras nowadays, it suffers from noise as well, which is really annoying. I miss my A75 even though I got it fixed now!! My sister also has a pretty old Canon Ixus 55 (4mp) which takes brilliant photos and I told her to never get rid of it for the sake of an upgrade, because higher megapixel cameras are just not worth it imo! (unless you make the jump to a dslr).
Anyway, my point is that even if you feel the A80 is slightly old-fashioned and bulky looking its well-worth hanging onto, if only because of the picture quality. I never noticed noise or had to use noise reduction software on my A75 photos, but regularly have to do so with my other cameras, which is a pain!
Otherwise, I'd recommend the A720is, unless you want something smaller. It's the same size as the A75 but feels a lot sleeker and less bulky for some reason. The Ricoh Caplio R6 with 7x zoom also seems to take good photos and is tiny!

i recently bought a Canon PowerShot SD850 and i love it....small but it's got a great zoom and the stabilizer works great.....:)

I will hold onto it a bit longer, I was never going to get rid of it, just use something else. You're right, it isn't noisy and my pictures come out great. (well at least I think so) but I also have a great Canon printer just right for me to print my photos...I do need a better zoom though!!
Thanks for all the suggestions...:D
