As someone who has dipped my pen in the company ink on many occasions. I'm talking well into the double digits here let me offer a few thoughts on this. btw...These practices are best used in a work place with a lot of turn over.

First of all...the best targets are the ones who are lower then you on the totem poll and who figure to be shortimers.

#2...One at a time. If you're screwing around with some chick at work just stick with the one. If someone better comes available and you need to jump ship, break it off in as sweet a way as possible and make sure the new relationship is very discreet at first.

#3...Don't promise her anything. Most people are very understanding as long as you are up front. Tell her you don't usually date people from work and that you're very apprehensive about it initially. This works in two-fold. It allows you to be discreet about the relationship without her feeling like you are ashamed of her and it also gives you an easy out later.

That's about it for now. If I had to sum it up I would say this. If you care about your job be careful. If you want to get a good catch and release program going you have to be nice but dont be affraid to express what you want up front. Everyone has needs and there's nothing wrong with two single people hooking up, but be appreciative of the people who you're hooking up with and look out for the ones that are crazy or are going to screw your shit up. Try to stay away from those.
    Be excellent to each other

I wouldn’t recommend it as a general rule. I’ve tried twice and regretted it both times. I did wind up with a very dedicated stalker as a result of one attempt. While being stalked does improve your self-esteem, it’s still a double-edged sword when they walk out of your closet while you are getting it on with someone else…

No, but I think that's only because I didn't have any... She liked to take her anger out on my truck instead...

Tried it a couple of times in my youth...not much good ever came of it. Would say...try and stay away from it.

my personal experience with this has always been bad... then again it was 3 different girls all at the same job... the main problem is if you break up with one person and then a hotter girl gets hired, you kindof have to wait for the ex to quit before you can make a move on the new one :D

in general id say its a bad idea tho... this board is probably enough of a distraction at work for most without adding another

    my experience.

was going through my divorce, kinda liked this girl. thought she was cool as hell. she kept blowing me off to go out for drinks.

finally she did, she brought a friend that worked with us. when the bar closed all three of us came back to my house. the friend got pissed at something, (turns out she liked me) anyway i was way too drunk to drive the girl home. so she stayed. NOTHING HAPPENED. we slept in the same bed, but nothing happened.

that was 2 years and 7 months ago.

she is still here. she never left after the first night.
worlds longest date, or one night stand. : )
    and i couldnt be happier.
    Peace, Love.

yeah, she was a godsend. lol i doubt i would be here today if she had not agreed to go out for drinks that night.

with the divorce and all, i was in a pretty dark place, and even i didnt realize how close to being over it was. lol

#2...One at a time. If you're screwing around with some chick at work just stick with the one. If someone better comes available and you need to jump ship, break it off in as sweet a way as possible and make sure the new relationship is very discreet at first. Check! for the time being

...and look out for the ones that are crazy or are going to screw your shit up. Try to stay away from those. Seems level headed, but so did the Menedez brothers up until that fateful night!

Only once have I tried to get into the pants of a co-worker. She was a gorgeous, gorgeous young lady with great knockers and everything else to boot. And I tried to be so smooth about it too. She was complaining about the increased cost of living and I said, "Well let me save you the cost of dinner this weekend." To this day, I am dumbfounded as to why she decided to stop giving me the time of day after that. All she had to say was, "No thanks," but instead she just started ignorning me even after we had spent countless breaks and e-mails shooting the shit. Her loss I say, heh, heh...I was the one who ended up leaving that company for a better job...not her. And it's not that I haven't had the opportunity to date co-workers...just never met one who was that smoking hot up until that point.

I really don't think it is a good idea.
If something happens, it gets disgruntly around the office.
Yes, I made that word up. So what???
    :)
But, if you like him/her, don't listen to me. I have done it. :p

i've done it and we're good friends now but i think that's rare. it helped that he moved to london, thus ending things with us on a professional and ink-dipping level. :p but we kept in touch and stayed friends and still hang out now and then now that he's back in dc. in fact, he'll be my concert buddy on 6/22!

Statistically, more people meet their significant others at work than any other place. In other words, more people are hooking up at the water cooler than at the bar. I find it hard to believe too. Still, as an HR guy, I do everything in my power, and in the training sessions I teach, to discourage it…
