My camera crapped out on me this week. It was just a point and shoot 5mp Canon Powershoot. I want to get a new one for christmas but i don't really know what i should be looking for.
I've heard "image stablization" is a good thing to look for. Should i be looking for higher pixels or a higher zoom? Or both? I'm so confused!

Cannon IS series cameras are great....Lumix (Panasonic) also makes great p.a.s. cameras.

Canon IS are great cameras....kind of a hybrid between your standard point and shoot, and a DSLR. They are much more bulky than a small pas, but have many more functions and better photos. DSLR's have the most functionality, better photos, are very bulky (in comparison), and are by far the most expensive. With DSLR's you're dealing with lenses, filters, flashes, cases, etc etc.
We have a Nikon D60 DSLR and a little Lumix pas.
The best thing to do is go into a camera shop and find something that suits you. Most professional camera type shops will take the time to show you different cameras and let you try them out in the store.

the nikon is one of the cheaper dslr cameras, around $500. it is an excellent camera. i'm in love with it.
if you're looking for a smaller camera, i usually stay away from kodak for some reason but this one is actually great quality. dual lens takes wide angled shots and takes amazing panoramic shots.
Got a chance to use one a while back and if I had the money I'd buy it for sure.
Celebration, the ball's in play
If you are looking at zooms, ignore the digital zoom number. Optical zoom is the key.
