Record players

I am think about becoming a record collector, but I have no idea about record players. I have one but I don't know if it has produces the quality I would like have. Do all players play/sound the same? If not recommend me a nice player to buy that is not too expensive. I am a student and broke lol

well a hundred years ago when we had record players, we had expensive needles and enormous speakers, the bigger, the better....times have changed.
