i feel like this is the absolute ballsiest thing a person could ever do.....i'm funny, i know i'm funny, everyone says i'm funny, but god damn, i can't even imagine the guts it would take to get up on a stage and try to be funny
i've played guitar in bands, i've sang karaoke, i've played guitar and sang at open mic nights....but with music, its ok if people don't respond...its ok for music to be "background noise" while people drink and socialize
but with comedy, people have to laugh....you want people to sit there in silence and hang on every word you say...and LAUGH....if you tell 20 jokes and people laugh at 12 of them, thats no good!!!
just started to have this idea swirl around my head....we'll see...

I think it's great to have comedians perform at open mic nights, because a lot of times the lineup is: guy with guitar-girl with guitar-guy with guitar-band, etc etc. Breaks up the monotony, y'know?
And you are right, those people have guts. At least with playing guitar and/or singing, you can lose yourself in the music (as Eminem would say).
