Pimples, or facial imperfections!!

Ok, so I didn't bother doing a search on this, oh well, so sue me!!!

Anyway, lately I've noticed my face breaking out more than usual. The odd thing is that I have been using a facial wash.

Do certain facial washes stop working after a while??? I've been using the same one for about 1-2 years, but I've noticed my skin getting oilier and stuff.

I also have a pimple 'scar' that I thought would never go away, but for the last couple of months I've noticed that there is a lot of build up in the skin in that area. So if I get rid of that, would it get rid of the 'scar'?

Anyway, any and all responses are welcome!!!

P.S. I'm a guy, in case that matters in any way what so ever!

    from my experience:

DON'T overuse the product regardless of what it tells you to do. if you feel itchiness or irritation then reduce your applicants.

I had some pimple and acne problems between 16-21ish, took about 5 years to get rid of it but i realized i overused products.

Dove facial soaps works fine too which is all I use now, no other products. but like I said don't over use it, u just make it worse.

Also, eat less fried and greasy food or don't eat them at all.

I didn't mention it in the original post, but because of your response I will say this.

I don't overuse the facial soap, and I'm 27 going on 28 years old!

If your skin is getting oilier, it's likely due to the skin drying out. The body will overreact with oil production if it thinks the skin is dehydrated. Do you moisturize after using your face wash? If not, try using one and see if that helps.
  • instead of changing product have you considered your lifestyle?

are you stressed? eating a different diet?

if you've changed nothing ask your chemist/pharmacist for some advice, hopefully they won't rip you off with some miracle product ;)
    wah
  • Stress and diet is def a major factor. I have been compensating quitting smoking with a terrible diet plus in a very stressful environment at work right now. All the products and scrubs have not stopped me from getting my first pimple on my face in over 20 years. I'm 41.

  • It's all about Ph balance. Call me half a sissy, but my wife bought me a facial eariler this year. I went and the lady did her thing (which actually was one of the best things I've ever had done) and I asked her what the best face products were. She said Cetaphil. I've used it since and haven't stopped. All that harsh stuff with salicylic acid and benzoil peroxide works, but it overdries the skin, then the skin has to react to it, thus producing more oil. Now I come from a family of oily Italians. Wring out my skin and you can have half a bottle of Filippo Berio olive oil. It's all under control now. Diet is huge too as previously said. And don't scrub!! It aggrevates the skin and the oil glands. It will cause more damage. And if you want to get rid of that pimple fast, use sulfur compounds.

Damn I should have been a dermatologist!!

    In order of importance:

1 - use a gentler facewash product, or use less of what you have in each wash. Try something from Nivea or Neutrogena (@ chain stores) or from Body Shop if you're high-falutin' - they have a good men's product line there.
2 - use a *gentle gentle gentle* exfoliant (washcloth) when scrubbing, and don't use too much product
3 - moisturize. Yes, even men need that. Try the same line of products you are using from Nivea or Body Shop.
4 - to combat breakouts, try a topical ointment with salicylic acid (Neutrogena) or benzoyl peroxide (Oxy). Some of these are also moisturizers; some people respond to only one of these active ingredients, or both. Start with salicylic acid; it's gentler.
    5 - don't forget sunscreen !!
6 - eat less grease/chocolate, quit smoking, cut down on alcohol (if any of these are applicable)

    Hope that helps.

    no they don't........
  • I had it bad in High School, so the Dr. told me not to wash my face with soap, just hot water. The soap removed too much oil so your body over reacts and produces more the needed. I took about a week or two before I noticed I had less break outs. Oh, and shave every other day regardless if you need to or not. Shaving will remove dead skin cells that reduce break outs. Just be careful shaving around break outs, it only makes it worse.

I second all the recommendations made already. Exfoliation, pH balance, gentle cleanser, less stress, healthier lifestyle, drink more water, moisturize. Also: try not to touch your face. Keep your hands clean and any gadgets that may go near your face clean (i.e. cell phone, headphones, pillowcases, etc.)
