Just thought i,d let everyone know :)
I'll be in the neighborhood later on, and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get some frozen yogurt, or perhaps a whole meal of food, if that would be agreeable. Damnit.

    There has never been so many science discussions on the board... It's like christmas!

    Energy and matter are interchangable... If you convert matter to energy, e = mc^2 will tell you how much energy you get.

    For example, reactions in our sun convert hydrogen to helium. In the process, some mass is lost due to the fact that more hydrogens are converted into less heliums.

    Specifically 4.765 x 10^-29 kg of mass is lost in the conversion of 4 hydrogen to 1 helium.

    E = mc2
    = 4.765247993481 x 10-^29 * 9 x 10^16
    = 4.2887 x 10 ^-12 Joules of energy

    Thus you can calculate exactly the amount of energy released form this particular reaction occuring in the sun. Amazingly, the sun loses 4,200,000,000 kg of mass per second as it is converted energy.
