I've taken the GMAT. It's not too bad. You should buy the GMAT books out there and do those problems over and over. The key to the test is partially based on knowledge and partially knowing the tricks of the tests.

    So just practice practice practice!

And don't be afraid to take it several times if you can afford it !

  • i have a request to make.

those of you who tried to help me by sending a mail, but sent it to the wrong indiansummer by mistake, would you be so nice as to please retrieve your mails from your send folders and re-send it to me (indiansummer WITHOUT a blank)??? Your inputs could be vital towards shaping my career.

    Thanks

Any Ten Club members have some advice on the GMAT?
I am planning on buying the Pearson's approved study guide - and dig into it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for online practice exams?
Thanks for your help in advance!

I was also thinking about doing the GMAT and if I ever make that decicision, I'll probably pick up a Study Guide from the book store. Most of them come with a CD ROM with additional questions. I've read many testimonial on bus student websites that those bookstore study guides work if you really stick to them and don't take any short cuts.

As for business schools, I would put little faith in any kind of ranking list. It all depends on where you want to live. Businesses will usually favor local schools in spite of their ranking.

For example, in California, the Cal State schools get a lot of preference from the large finance and accounting firms in spite of not being especially well ranked on a national level.

The thing of it is that a lot of the managers at those firms graduated from Cal State and other local schools, so they're naturally going to hire the same. I've met so many University of Phoenix and National University business students who talk about getting a degree that just as good as any other, but the truth of it is that you never see University of Phoenix and National University graduates getting the real jobs. I hope I have not offended anyone on here who has graduated from either of those schools. If anything, you can probably attest to it.

Whoa - slam dunk. Yes I am applying to a UC School. I have a few hurdles, 1 most importantly is passing that examine. Oh and a figuring out if I am poor enough for some financial aid!

    Thanks for your support!

Only a handful of UC schools have business programs, and they aren't much better than a CalState business degree.

UC Irvine and UC Berkley are the only UC business schools that are considered "top tier." Whereas, Cal State San Diego, Fullerton, Long Beach, Fresno, San Francisco, and San Marcos to name a few are all heavily recruited by the big firms.

If you can get into Cal Poly, that would be your best bet. Graduating from, say, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a respectable GPA would open many doors for you.

I think you are forgetting Anderson School at UCLA.
