Okay, as far as topicality goes, I'm a little behind the times, but I finally got around to watching the third movie, and I'm left with one question.
Why?
The first movie was fantastic. Just a perfect "fun pirate movie". Why couldn't they leave it at that? Why did they have to take their own mythology so goddamn seriously, and drag it out through two joyless, turgid pieces of cinematic wankery?
I'm also wondering why I didn't just turn the DVD off halfway through, but one thread at a time, right?

Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

cuz they wanted to bleed the franchise dry for money. the 2nd one was okay, the 3rd one was horrible. i wanted everybody to die just so it would freaking end already!
and so....of course....they're making a 4th one  now mind you i love johnny, but c'mon now!0 -
The 4th one will be to make up for the 3rd oneShows:

I didn't even get half way through the second one. Totally agree. Johnny Depp kind of summed up what sucks about the films by recently saying he was seen as a novelty and he was waiting for the chance to become box office big draw. Actually Johnny, I think most people like you because you aren't 'box office'. It was just a cash cow for all involved.we're all going to the same place...0

I think I enjoyed the third one more than the second, but that's like saying I enjoyed being stabbed in the throat by a drunk vagrant more than I enjoyed being hung, drawn and quartered.
And I can understand wanting to bleed the franchise dry... but they could have at least kept it light and frothy. One of the main reasons I enjoyed the first movie was because it was inherently silly - and a wonderful relief from things like the LotR series and all the "serious" adventure movies that were - and are - so in vogue.
Meh - I'm sure my vitriol will fade in about 30 minutes, along with any lasting memories of the third movie.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -

HOWEVER, they are hilarious and fun and I own them all on blu-ray.
You can argue that the first movie was much funnier than the third. That I will agree with, however I love the atmosphere and effects of the third movie.0 -
I agree. But I feel like that about sequels in general.Dig a ditch deep enough

I loved the first movie and had rented both the 2nd and 3rd movie a few months ago to watch. Halfway thru the 2nd movie I hit eject and returned both movies. It was worse then the Caddyshack sequal.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0
