...did you receive a little bag full of goodies filled with product samples, information brochures, baby advertising brochures, baby magazines etc to take home? We do in Australia.

If yes, can you please tell me where you live (city, state etc) and the hospital name please.

I just wrote a book (http://www.educatingbabies.com) and one target market is new mothers at hospitals.

Thanks for your help! :)

I don't know that i've heard of any hospital that does not give those out. it also helps if you get to know some of the nurses...preemie pampers are really expensive

yeah the goodie/sample bag is free here too.

yep and since preemie pampers are so teeny-tiny and use less materials you'd think that they'd be cheaper than the others

Can you remember what the goodie bags are called in the US or who distributes them?

In Australia, they are called Bounty Bags (http://www.bountybags.com.au).

Usually the formula companies are the ones who give them out, well the ones who give them to the hospitals to give out.
Let's see it is Enfamil and Similac.
They usually have different ones for bottle feeding moms and breast feeding moms.
I got one each time I delivered my kids except when I had the twins.
But that was a bad experience all around. My twins went directly to the Children's Hospital and I had to stay there , at the regular hospital, for almost a week.

Oh the hospitals were in Bridgeton MO and Florissant MO.

Thanks! Did the bags include promotional/advertising flyers and brochures etc for a whole range of different baby products? Or was it mainly filled with breastfeeding info?

Here in Belgium, the mither receives a box with products, advertising, information, etc. And then we receive (by mail) 2 or 3 other boxes during the first year of the child.

Yep they had all kinds of brochures and coupons and even samples of all kinds of baby related stuff. Wipes, all kinds of baby lotions, even detergent.

The differences in the bottle feeding bag and the breastfeeding bag were that the breast feeding one only had a small formula sample and had a insulated bag and ice packs with it.

Three years later and we are still using one of the diaper bags the stuff came in, our stuff here comes in a diaper bag. We use ours to store all of my one twins meds, she takes a few every day. Just keeps it all in one place and makes it easy for us when we take her to the Dr, we just grab the bag so we can have everything right there.

In Ireland, new mothers get bounty bags too. But I don't think they got them from the hospital either. As far as I recall, my sister got a voucher from her health nurse to get them from a shop/supermarket.

Yeah, I got one from Similac. I think every hospital in the country hands out samples from one formula company or another, depending on what brand they stock.

Yeah, we got a bag full of stuff when my daughter was born. We got it at the hospital. It had pamphlets, a parenting magazine, formula sample, along with some other things.

Hosptial - Howard County General in Columbia, MD.

    Hope that helps.

Almost always the nurse will tell you to clean out the bassinet too. I don't think they can re-use anything that was opened. And they always tell me to take whatever diapers are on there too.

  • My memory is a little fuzzy as my "babies" are now 9 and 6 but I recall leaving with a bunch of stuff from the hospital.

    What I can recall:

    formula samples
    coupons for diapers
the nipple-grease stuff (can't remember the name, starts with "L")
dorky mini diaper bag that held the "freebies" from the hospital
packets of info on, basically, how to take care of the baby, umbilical cord, etc. (didn't need that info for the second baby as I was already an expert). ;)
