Wolf, what part of the "wild" do you hail from?

im in Cincinnati, Ohio. but am just a short drive to some great nature spots.

i have not been camping or gone on a hike in forever. i need to do that.

my gf is going on vacation with her grandma next week, so i was thinking about seeing if my nephew wanted to go somewhere for a few nights.

Hahaha. My wife can't keep her clothes on in the wild, so a lot of mundane activities turn sexy.

As far as the fire starting goes, we just argue about who has the best technique.

    loghouse!

Yeah, get the kid out there! The thing I really like about Idaho, other than the sparse population, is that it has more roadless wilderness than any other state in the lower 48. It isn't hard to get deeeeeeep in the mountains. Well, that and it also has 3,500 miles of runable whitewater for any of the rafters/kayakers out there, which is also far and away more than any other state.

I never get tired of the outdoor activities here.

that's old school ... loghouse way more efficient at getting oxygen and plus you can prebuild a loghouse and it'll hold better then a tee-pee ...

It is. A lot of people drive through Idaho on the main Interstate which runs across the bottom of Idaho and they are left with the impession that it is pretty desolate. So, southern Idaho is good if you are a desert rat but head north a bit and you will see what I am talking about. Oh, and Like Polaris said, the north(ish)east section of Idaho along the Montana and Wyoming border is simply stunning.

Yesterday I was jumping off big boulders into the Payette River. It was all the running water and air conditioning a man could need. Brrrrrr.

I was only up for the one night so we slept in the back of my truck. She spent the two nights previous high in the mountains in a tent. When we are together, we rarely use a tent. The weekend before this last one, I was suddenly awaken by a chipmunk about to climb up my face. However, that's better than be awaken by a big wet and sniffing nose.

As far as the other question, dig a hole my brother. No big deal.

I really want to go to Idaho with you talking about it. I wanted to go this year, but our budget or 6 month old child would not allow it due to the length of drive and gas prices.

    Perhaps next year....

    From Stanley up to Sunbeam
    from Clayton on to Chalice,
    Heading down the Salmon river
    To a rangeland palace
    Sage brush all around

Where the deer and elk do roam
This place I may call home
Where the flatlands stretch for miles
And the mountains touch the sky
    And the sun always shines

    Chorus:
    In Idaho, ohhhh
    In Idaho, ohhhh
    In Idaho, ohhhh
    In Idaho

My mind is filled with images
    Of saw-tooth bridges
    Where the snow melt forms
    Cold mountain creeks
Flowin' through the valley down below

I was standing 'neath the pine trees
On a bed of wild grass
This place has captured me, well far I can see
There ain't no place I'd rather be.

    [Chorus - "Than Idaho, ohhh..."]

It is a great bluegrass tune written by Adam Aijala and Yonder Mountain String Band. I could shoot you an mp3 of it if you like. Great song about a great place!
