just got back from seeing it...surprisingly good movie!
i had seen the previews a few times in the theatre seeing other films, and it looked appealing, albeit perhaps not too original. it still may not be all that *original* in premise...but it is soooo well done! yes, sentimental, but doesn't go for simply the easy shots/answers/storyline, and even when it does...it is a brief, and enjoyable little shots.
a truly poignant story, could be about *anyone*...any culture......mostly about family, tradition, finding your own way....and sure, in this instance a beautiful story about an indian family in america.
really good!
btw - for those who care about such things.....there is quite a good scene that happens to have once playing quite loudly, and for a decent amount of screentime, in the flick.

I've done it the other way round. Looking forward to reading the book now! I read an extract; I've got a thing about books written in present tense, so that should be good.
