Late Bills

This happens to me once in a while. I forget to pay a bill so it ends up late. One time we almost had our water cut off. The latest is a credit card bill that I thought I paid off, turns out I didn't, now I have to pay the intrest for the full amount of the charge. It was one of those intrest free for 6 months.

I feel horrible, like I let my hubby down even though he is patient with me and lets me chalk it up to experience.

I wonder if this happens to others as well?

Only bills I have forgotten to pay have been CC and Student Loans bills - once each, just because I thought I had already paid them that particular month. No biggie - everyone makes mistakes... :)

Well, paying late is only really an issue with loans, credit cards, car payments and mortgage payments.
Generally if you miss your cable bill by a few days, or your electric bill it doesn't "hurt" you in any way.

my water will be shut off if i dont pay it by the 21st, and guess what? ive done all the math, and it aint gonna happen, unless i borrow the money. which really sucks, cause we'll be okay money wise on the 26th.

    ugg.

Most of my bills are automatically debited from my account every month.

  • Where I live I have the option of paying the montly average for my electric bill. If there is any left over at the end of the year they credit my account. So, I know my bill is $85.00 instead of 30 in the summer and 175 in the winter (something like that)

As for my almost late water bill a while back, they had stuck the notice on the front door. I didn't notice it until the wind had blown it onto the yard. I thought it was someone elses garbage at first.

I rarely used AC and I had 5 heating zones in my last house so the heat was used CONSERVATIVELY.

No matter how I sliced it heat and electric came close to $500 a month.

    CRAZY!

And my taxes on my home were over 800 a month.

Now I just rent and I'm paying $1600 all included.

(All my utilities were always paid (very) late. Never my mortgage or cc's though and therefore I have excellent credit. As it stands now, electric and gas do not get reported to the credit monitoring agencies. I've heard that is going to change though.)

I will never by on Long Island again. Ugh!

you should set up your account so that it takes the minimum from your checking account on the due date if you didn't pay your bill already.

In the case of them shutting your water off, why not just pay it with a credit card then save up that money and pay your card off at the end of the month? Seems like that would be better then having you water turned off.

I have all my utilities set up to my amex card. It makes it so easy, I just go online and pay my bill at the end of each month, plus I get 1.5% back just for doing it. I know it's not a ton of money, but it's money I wouldn't see if I mailed in 4-5 different checks each month. I'm also saving on postage....but that is really counting the pennies..

Damn, that may be the way to do it!

I'll have to look into that.
