25% goes to charity? I'm not sure, that's the best I can think of.

Hahaha, shipping insurance on a 1.5 million dollar chair is a buck sixty-five?

it's called simply: supply and demand. prices reflect what the market will bear. if not, the price gets lowered. obviously, this chair is like a work of art, not many around anymore/unique....stands as a symbol for a time period in the furniture design of the time, etc. see if it actually sells at that price for your answer.

people pay millions for a picasso....so will pay thousands for a charles eames or charles rennie macintosh chair. beauty, and art & design, in the eye of the beholder. :) so if someone has the cash and wants it enough......there it is.

*also......giving 25% to charity as mentioned above, and willing to discuss ANY offer. so yea, a wishlist more like. :)

chair is just a prop for the 1.5m donation

quick checking tells me that these are rare and in demand, but not 1.5m rare

since i am not a furniture guru, i just didn't know if a "danish modern gunlocke chair" was something really old and/or valuable.

and you just don't see too many "buy it now" items on ebay for $1.5 mil.

well i honestly do not know/remember the name 'gunlocke' but the chari design itself looks familiar from design classes.......and i would then guess it would be in the same category of an eames, macintosh, le corbusier, van der rohe, etc....... some of the *big names* of early modern design. i agree, 1.5 million is probably too high - thus why i suggest it more as a *wishlist*....but giving the willing to discuss any offer seems a lot more flexible. i guess putting that high a 'buy it now' price lets potential buyers know don't bid 1K. :p

Eight US presidents have entrusted their tushes to Gunlocke chairs.
Not sure that warrants a $1.5 million price tag, even if 25% go to charity.

I think it's a great looking chair, fine design, awesome craftsmanship....a quality peice. But unless one of those presidents actually owned that very chair, and will come to your house and drop it off.....1.5 million????

I think I'm going to start checking out the makers mark on every old wooden chair I see :)
