ERIC Cantona has one regret about his infamous kung fu attack on a football fan - he wishes he had hit him harder.

The ex-Manchester United player, 42, says the assault on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons was just a "drama".

He adds: "I didn't punch him strong enough. I should have punched him harder."

The French player's attack came in January 1995 when Cantona was sent off as United played Palace at Selhurst Park.

Bricklayer Simmons goaded him, so Cantona leapt over advertising boards to kick Simmons in the chest then punch him.

awesome guy
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Random useless information: I once went and saw him play for France in a beach football tournament in Hyde Park.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

    Cantona is God.

You know he once said he'd rather not score at all than score a goal that wasn't beautiful? That's AMAZING.

Well I just meant video in general, not in terms of football. For THAT, this cannot be beat.

Watch closely at 4:02, 4:54 (one of the greatest goals ever) 6:00 and 6:11 (the 2nd greatest goal I have ever seen after Maradona's against in England in '86. Watch the replay for the angle  ).

Possibly the only time I've found watching Man U interesting!

I see nothing wrong with punching a Palace fan. ;)

For those who are interested, Cantona is now doing the actor (he's OK) but he is also managing france beach soccer team. He was still playing beach soccer until one or two years ago.

    :D

The weird thing is, even though I was only 5 when Van Basten retired early because of his troublesome ankle, I feel like I saw him play a lot during my childhood, presumably just highlight clips like that one and old games my dad had taped. He became my hero along with Ally McCoist from Rangers FC. I always used to want to be Van Basten when I played football with my brothers :p

Plus that overhead kick became my main aim in life, to replicate it :p

I've managed a few in my time, as have plenty of other people, but neither I, nor any professional footballer I've ever seen, has come close to the sheer awesomeness of that one :p

We all tried to do this too, with varying degrees of failure :D

Oh, and *thread integrity* I bet Cantona would appreciate such dangerous flair :p

What's wrong with sports bars? :D The atmosphere is generally better than watching at home, plus BEER.

Actually, you can drink beer at home... :p

Eric Cantona is awesome. Was an awesome footballer, and an awesome person, and still is :) He's my hero.
I was in the stand behind this goal watching, nearly 13 years ago, and I'll never forget seeing it.

It triggered the infamous overhaul of Keegans Newcastle team, who were about 15 pointas ahead at the time. I love it...I really love it ;)
