college level english taught by a gammar nazi (they refer to themselves as such)
is so out of control it is unreal how difficult it can be

professors like that are brilliant, dry, rigid, and pretty fuckin boring

That's true! It's proven on here. Myself included.

Although it was more of a question. That's just what I've been told. :)

english is a complex language made up of words from other languages as well as its own. it morphs with the times as it absorbs these foreign words. we take it for granted cause weve lived with it since weve been in the womb.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

English is apparently one of the most difficult languages to learn?

Everyone says that about their native language.

    It's all relative.

Well, if the English didn't feel the need to take over the whole world years ago then we wouldn't have this problem, now would we?!

everyone tried to take over the world... ;)

well, OK, the English, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese did...
and...anyone else ? suppose you could say the Danes (lumping together Denmark, Sweden, Norway 'cause i don't know any better, sorry :o) ) tried before that, so for some reason the English were at the right place at the right time...

so 'English' is currently the most spoken/learnt language, or is it ? should we all be learning Spanish ? Chinese/Mandarin ? ... Esperanto ?

    feck the Gaelic... :D

Silent letters enrich our language Duncan.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
