Blood River

sounds like a good travel / holiday read.

A Quiet Belief in Angels

just sounds like its a book I should have read?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

  • I've seen the first one in the shops.. seems a bit formula fiction for my snobbish tastes.

The second one.. it sounds pretentious enough to be something I'd like reading.

    But no... sorry. :p
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

I always buy books based on the first page. It'll be good enough if it's written nicely from the first page, usually.. hang on that reads strangely. Obviously it won't be a good book if it's only written nicely from page 64. :D

Blood River sounds awesome and kind of like a continuation of an article I read recently in National Geo.
I agree about the cover of the second one. Gorgeous photo..love the sepia. And it also tells the reader that the book is going to be a journey. It also has awesome reviews.
Maybe I will read them too! Then we can have a talk about them.
I am reading this right now:
    http://www.amazon.com/Crimson-Petal-White-Michel-Faber/dp/015100692X

One reviewer said it was "Dickens with the sex put back in" :p
It is a hefty read. I mean, the book is heavy in weight.
