Saw his spoken word show last night. I'm a fan of Black Flag and also a fan of the brand of social commentary and storytelling w/humour that Henry does these days but I still wasn't expecting to be so wonderfully entertained as I was last night. He spoke for over 3 hours with barely a pause for breath and never got boring. There were many moments when myself and my friend could not stop laughing. The guy can really spin a yarn and manages to do the anti-bush thing without sounding naive or preachy. He also turned my understanding of the DC hardcore scene on its head by reminiscing about going to watch VAN HALEN with Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat and Fugazi :p

it was a great show. Has anyone else been?

Love Henry and try to catch him whenever he's in town. I tell this to everyone that mentions his name, get his e-mail address from ifc.com and e-mail him with your thoughts on his show last night, make it short and sweet. He will e-mail you back within a day if not right away. He loves praises! Besides I don't think he ever sleeps. Also, although I never have, if you wait for him outside a gig he will speak to everyone there. Humble, very cool guy.
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

Never had the pleasure, but the passage I quote from you is very poignant. It shows that it's only usually the deluded fans of a certain type of music that profess to hate another kind, or call it derisory, or just be completely snobbish about it all. I've always been a 'like what I like man', regardless of what anyone thought or said. It's great to hear him say that stuff. Lucky bugger Jer.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
  • I've seen his spoken word 3 times and I LOVE IT. I'm always checking to see if he's coming around. it's a great way to spend a night. unfortunately he hasn't come to where I've been living in the past couple years!

I agree. I mean, I'm a massive Minor Threat and Fugazi fan but I think one of the best records of 2006 was Justin Timberlake's newest album. I just never expected it from MacKaye :D Rollins himself said, when he first got into punk he threw all his old records out because he was like "Steve Miller?! what the fuck am I going to do with this" but then he sheepishly bought them again when he was older because he realised they were great records.

He was very pleasant about the english and said he loves London because it's the most culturally diverse city on earth probably but then, I'm scottish so I don't care if he hates the english :D

He did make numerous pleas for us to bear with his country while it sorts itself out :p

Yep :) I have scottish parents, scottish blood and a scottish heart :p I was just born in England, to my eternal sadness. I still consider myself totally scottish.
