To Fins and anyone else of a literary persuasion...

I am writing an essay entitled "Literature and ideology are necessarily separate realms. Discuss with reference to one or more literary texts". I am using one primary text, The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia Lorca.
Any ideas, reference points, suggestions for themes to follow? I have a good basis of an essay going but I am always a little light on the word-count and any suggestions would be great

"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

It's YOUR homework... YOU do itThe Astoria??? Orgazmic!
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
Chicago 07? And love
What a different life
Had I not found this love with you0 -
I know I've read that play but I cannot remember a thing about it
That doesn't help does it?So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -
My question is... why are they necessarily separate realms? Can you not argue the contrary as well? Language/literature IS part of the process of 'defining' the views of people and the other way around too. They are like conjoined twins. But those are my thoughts. Sorry.... can't point you to any texts to argue the point of literature and ideology having to be separate!
Not useful for your essay! But it would add to the word count

I need another 1000 words from somewhere.

Ah OK... I thought you were agreeing!
Damn.. another 1000 words... Throw in Marx, a few other revolutionaries, your own words.... Bummer.. but you need to refer to texts :(
Google it?
Where is Fins when you need him?0 -

Where is Fins when you need him?I have found a few good new sources to discuss. The wordcount is just creeping up at the most painfully slow rate.

The perfect text for this is the Open University's A319: Literature in the Modern World Block Four - Literature and Ideology. (4 of 8.) The course is now defunct, but I'm sure you could get hold of the coursebook either from your college library, or from the OU. The ISBN for the book is
ISBN 0 7492 1038 9
In a library, it'll be classified under 809.04.0 -

In a library, it'll be classified under 809.04.when I started the thread I couldn't find it and I have too many fines at the moment to get a copy out of the library but I found it. It is certainly a fountain of useful knowledge on the subject. The Eagleton stuff is really helpful.
