Withnail & I

anyone a fan of this film? It was recommended to me buy several friends, one of whom assured me that I was almost identical in personality to Richard E Grant's character, Withnail. I watched it tonight and very much enjoyed it. It's a very british type of comedy but not in a traditional stiff upper lip kind of way. It's all about alcoholics and drinking lighter fluid and being a bum.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

Love this movie! It's been my favorite comedy for many, many years. Richard E. Grant is brilliant as Withnail.
"I feel like a pig shat in my head." Best description of a hangover ever!E agora? Faz xixi na mão e deita fora!0 -

I have never seen it, but I used to have a friend (with whom I've lost touch) who just raved about it.
I'll have to watch it. And I"ll have to see if I can locate my old friend, because I just sort of realized how much I miss her.0 -
Great film. I recommend you watch it twice as It's easy to miss a lot in the first viewing.
I enjoyed it much more the second time around. It mayalso be best appreciated drunk or stoned too.
It has some of the funniest dialogue ever committed to film.0 -

but no, I think that my friend was suggesting that I, like Withnail, am a cynical, intelligent but pretentious, acerbic but likeable type person... which I guess is kind of accurate. I'm not as pretentious as Withnail though. I assure you that I have never drank lighter fluid
