The topic is engagement rings…

What is the tradition in other countries around the world? I find it stressful and unnecessary that a man is EXPECTED to fork over a thousand+ dollars for an engagement ring.
The less you know, the more you believe.

    well if you love the woman enough you should be willing to fork over a thousand+ for her. but then again i'm only 15 and now little to nothing on this nonsense. :p

    believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

    thats bullcrap. why should the guy have to spend a months salary on a ring? no man, its about time the chick spends that much on a ring for the GUY. see how SHE likes it! :D i dont want to ever get married but if i did.....the guy is freakin lucky cuz i cant wear jewelry anyway!!!! :D

    and really, I'd rather be able to buy my own home and my own jewelry. and...well, I did buy a house on my own. Jewelry is low on the list of wants at the moment. I'd rather save for a horse.

    Well I know it's normally the woman's family who pays for the wedding, which can easily surpass that spent on the ring.

    I just think it should be an even exchange without expections that one covers the ring while the other takes care of the wedding.

    Just throwing another angle out there...
