Buying land on the moon!

Is now the time to purchase your plot of land on the moon? How does that work? Do you go to NASA and say 'take me home please' and will you actually HAVE legal ownership to this land when/if the time comes that we have to move there?

Anyway, it's $20 an acre... probably the only land anywhere that I can afford to buy :eek:

    I love that site... I mean come on... basically theyre gonna throw a piece of paper onto the moon with your name on it :D . We're not even there yet and they're planning on how they're gonna litter it.

    Besides, what if you get there and there's a Martian family already living on your land... can you say 'well yes, actually my name IS on it'? :eek:

    Damn straight I just bought some land!

    Since the lunar acre is only 5 inches square, looks like I've got a lot more property to buy. I plan on owning the whole Northern Hemisphere one day....

    I'll invite everyone to my future moon home!

    'Others reject the claim. Martin Juergens of Germany has said his ownership of the moon dates back to Frederick the Great. The German monarch bestowed the spherical body on his ancestor in the 18th century, according to Juergens.

    "(Juergens) said his family was given the moon, but he has no paperwork to prove that case," said Hope of his Old World rival. "He sent me a long letter in German, which roughly translated said I should cease and desist and send him all the money I had made."

    Experts in space law dismiss Hope's celestial property ambitions as well.

    "It's either a hollow claim or a fraud," said Frans Von Der Dunk, co-director of the International Institute for Air and Space Law at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

    The 1967 outer space treaty said space "was to remain just like the high seas, free for use by all," he said. '

    On the dark side of the moon it is. The lack of atmosphere also results in 120 degree celcius days when the sun is out. Also days are about 4 weeks long, so you freeze your nads (or equivilant) off for 27 days, and then gently toast them for the next month.

    I should add, and I am sure that you all know this already, that it is a scam. Same as the companies that sell people the naming rights to stars. Essentially you are paying people money to print you out a certificate saying that you own some moon land. There is absolutely no legal rights associated with your purchase.

    On an amusing side note, it has already been shut down in china for "profiteering and lunacy." I hope the pun was intended.
