Iverson traded to Pistons?

Looks like the Pistons are getting Iverson. If you remember back in 2000, the Sixers nearly sent him there but that fell through and then they made it to the finals with him.

Yup... and this time there's no fucking Matt Geiger to refuse to waive his no-trade clause (why a hump like Geiger had a no-trade, I'll never know). :)

I friggin' LOVE this deal. Billups hasn't had legs for a long time now, and he's looked dead the past few nights. He can't cover anyone defensively anymore. Iverson can still get to the hoop (something Chauncey has had trouble doing) and he can hang defensively with the young PGs in the league. Moving McDyess frees up huge minutes for Amir Johnson and Jason Maxiell as well.
Plus, they get out from underneath Chauncey's contract (4 more years on that mofo), and with AI's and Rasheed's contracts up at the end of this season, they'll have about $30 million in cap space next summer.

I think this is a deal you HAVE to make if you're Detroit. That core group of guys wasn't going to beat Boston in the East this year. And I remember what happened the last time they brought a "me first" guy in with a "poor attitude"... they won a title. If AI is as hungry for a ring as they say he is, this might work out pretty well. If not, you still have a ton of money to play with next off-season.

I think that's the idea behind Dumars' thinking. He brought in a new coach after the team did the same thing it's done and was looking to tweak the core group. I think it's a good move for both teams.

  • It gives Denver the "true" PG that they've been after... defensively I think it's a downgrade for the Nuggets, though. But they get their hometown boy back and Detroit gets a rental player for the season and a shit-ton of cap room for next summer. Plus, after Billups spent the last two seasons getting absolutely worked in the playoffs by the likes of Boobie Gibson and Rajon Rondo, it was obvious that the team as they sat was going to be able to get it done.

I think Detroit came out ahead on this one. :)

They might also be ahead in the technical foul category with Iverson and Wallace on the same team..

Not only that, it's a subtle look ahead move for the summer of 2010 when players such as Wade, LeBron are free agents. It seems that a lot of moves leaguewide are going to based on that.

  • Interesting trade.
I thought Billups was the man in Detroit?? I thought he was pretty much the face/leader of the team that just signed a new contract??
But then again I don't really follow the NBA

good deal for both teams ... there aren't enuf shots for AI and Melo on Denver ... pistons were getting old fast and the cap room freed up should allow them to get younger ...

    go raps

How do you like it for the future? As in when AI retires and you have cap space?

Get ready to not win anything with #3. Bubba Chuck is gonna want his attempts and that's it.

the pistons have a mentality wherein there are no stars in the team. they proved that when they won the 2004 championship. now with iverson at point guard, let's see how he will adjust whether he'll drop bombs or orchestrate the team.

billups, i think, would be a great addition to nuggets.

I got Carmelo on my fantasy....he's gonna get 20+ shots per game now.
I also have Rip as well but I don't think his shots will dramatically drop. :)

Sorry Toronto but Boston's gonna repeat as Atlantic champs and NBA champs.
