I got two of them and actually caught them instead of getting them on the bounce.

The first was off Jeff Bagwell in 1991. I probably would have gotten it anyway as the Mets were hopelessly out of it and there nobody around.

The second was off Tim Raines in 1993 when he with the White Sox. It came hours after I met him and mentioned I was at a game in 1987 that he hit a game-winning grand slam in. He was amazed that I could remember that.

Never caught a foul ball. Got around 20 or 30 of them in BP and from players as a high school kid at Fenway Park, but never during the game.

Came close once but couldn't get to it.

I've never really been close either. hahaha!

Caught one about 12 years ago at the Vet. Phils vs. Braves, and I was taunting Chipper Jones, with the "Larry, Larry" chant. Coincedentally, he lines one right at me, hits me in the chest, and bounces into my hands.

Nope, but back in 2000, I had a three game stretch where the person immediately behind me or next to me caught one.

I think it was from Rusty Greer of Texas in the Dome against the Twins back in 97 or 98. Same game that one of the Twins (Coomer, I think) busted Pudge's jaw in a home plate collision. The foul ball landed about 15 rows behind us, and since the Twins sucked then, no one was sitting there and it bounced and landed right in the seat behind me. I simply picked it up out of the seat and it was mine.
No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.

No, but my sister got hit in the back of the head with one during pre-game warm up a couple of years ago. She stood up to leave her seat and say Hi to someone. At that exact moment, someone opened the door to the player tunnel and Billy Guerin shot one that was deflected and went right through the gap in the glass and nailed her right in the back of the head.

She dropped like she had been shot and to be taken to the emergency room and had 15 stitches put in her head.

After the game, Guerin and Stars president Jim Lites showed up at the hospital. Gave her an autographed sweater and on-the-glass tickets to an upcoming game. I thought that was very cool of them!!

this line is older than your underwear
  • twice...never actually caught it though

    1. Yankees vs Indians at Yankee Stadium - Kenny Lofton hits a foul ball into the tier box, everyone stands up to try to catch it, my father has no idea whats going on and is just sitting there....the ball lands right between his legs under his seat, and i grabbed it

    2. I went to Toronto to see the Yankees play, I had seats down in the Box level, Delgado hits a line drive foul to our seats, the guy to my right catches it but gives it to me, pretty cool cause I was really young

the other time I almost got one was last years playoffs against the Indians, it went down into the conession area but someone beat me to it

that's awesome that you caught a ball hit by bagwell. hes definetely my favorite player of all time.

sometime maybe around 95 vince coleman hit a foul ball of jim abbott and it bounced into my brothers lap and my dad snatched it after it flew up into the air.

as for hockey i got a puck from the rangers trainer and a year later he gave me a stick kirk mclean broke

I got one puck that came off the back boards at about 70 mph (no, I didn't catch it . . . but I tried!). It smacked one of the tunnel walls and bounced back to me. It surely would have broken my hand.

I got a Sammy Sosa foul-tip at a Giants game back when him and Mark were in the home-run chase (you know, back when all of America turned a blind eye to steroids). It was a crowning achievement in my life.

I didn't actually catch the foul ball, but I did end up with it. It was off of the bat of Harold Reynolds at Old Comisky Park. The ball ended up in the ushers hands and I ran up to her and she gave it me. I was pretty young at the time.

  • I was working on the Camera Crew for the Oakland A's in 2002 and I was in the crowd filming crowd shots. (Little kids, Hot Girls, babies, etc)

All of a sudden a foul ball is hit in my area where I was filming and two bozos both try to catch it but it bounces off one of there hands and I caught it with my free hand on the rebound while filming the whole thing with my camera. I thought it was a pretty tricky feat.

It should also be noted that I gave the ball away to a kid because I'm cool like that, and i didn't have a pocket large enough to stuff the ball in! :)

my only *really close* chance at getting a ball was at Fenway ...

A friend and I were first row behind the bullpens ... it was a Sunday night game vs the Braves ...

We got up to get beers ... when we came back, the section was all a buzz ... come to find out, a home run was hit (want to say it was Jeff Blauser) ... after a small frenzy, I guess the ball landed in my seat ... the guy next to me got it and said "yeah, I just reached into your seat and picked it up". Doh.

Later that game ... Mo Vaughn hit a shot that was into the bullpen but short of the stands, so, many of us were reaching over the fence between the two to grab it ... and it hit the fence in the biullpen about 4 inches away from my hand ... but, it was RIGHT in front of where my friend was standing. I asked him "dude, what happened, you missed it?" He said he didn't really know.

That night, I was home watching sports center and they replayed the home run ... and there is was, on ESPN, my friend reaching over the fence ... and then ... PULLING HIS ARM BACK with a face full of fear ... HA, he totally gator armed it ... I still tease him about it.
