He's a nice story and has had a good year but c'mon.
How about Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, or Tom Brady?

I'm alright with him winning a lifetime achievement award, except that this is sportsman of the year.
he was untouchable in the postseason... amazing stuff.
true, i still don't have a problem with it. my guess with federer is that they want to see if he can win the grand slam. brady may have been hurt by the stuff with bellichick.

The media and the sports writers jock Favre very hard not sure why

Well Brady already won it once before. I think Tiger Woods is in the only person ever to win it twice.
And like you said it's a lifetime achievement award sort of how Ripken won in 95, Shula in 93 and Dean Smith in 97.

Old, White, Humble, & not a troublemaker. His wife battled cancer, of course people(media) like him.
They aren't gonna vote for Carmelo Anthony who has donated 4.2 million dollars last year to charity. Nor will they vote for Dhani Jones of the Bengals (formerly Eagles) He does so much volunteering and makes charitable appearances everywhere.
Go Salukis! Win one more and it's on to Chattanooga for the FCS national championship game!
Go Steelers! Sure, it's obvious the officials will do their damndest to make sure the Pats win, but do the sports world a favor and end this winning streak!
Well said, especially the Go Steelers part.

From a quick glance of this list, SI only gave out the award twice for humanitarian work and the rest for athletic achievement.

Plus that also makes sense I guess that they gave it to him for the TD record.
I'm thinking that Manning was the original choice but when SI did their voting in November it was right after the Colts lost to the Pats and then Manning threw 6 picks to the Chargers. So I think those two weeks cost him the award.
