Well Dave Montgomery (Phil's owner) told me in 04 at a Penn Princeton game at the Palestra that he hated trading Rolen and would love to get him back, but he might have been humoring me after I was ripping on him for two hours about the Schilling and Rolen deals he and GM Ed Wade made. ;)

  • As a Cardinal fan I would hate to see Rolen leave. I'd much rather had seen LaRussa quit at the end of this season. I'd also like to see us make a move for bringing back Dan Haren. Hell, we'll just reverse the deal from a couple of years ago...Mulder for Haren straight up.

I would be okay w/ a trade involving Chris Duncan, Anthony Reyes, and one of our best prospects, a catcher by the name of Brian Anderson, for some pitching, a third baseman if Rolen is gone, or a right handed hitting outfielder.
  • I've heard a few Edmonds to the Padres rumors. Edmonds is one of my favorite players ever, but I think his best days are behind him.
  • So Detriot just probably made the move of the offseason getting a much needed hitter in Miguel Cabrera and some decent pitching in Dontrelle for a shitload of prospects. Looks like they'll be real WS contenders next year.
  • That's a blockbuster, and one that may help both teams. I'm not too high on Dontrelle, but at least he'll be pitching in one of the biggest parks there is. He may even be Detroit's best pinch hitter now. And if just Miller and Maybin work out, it's a great deal for Florida. And they get 4 more players too. And this deal guarantees that Andrew Miller will be on the trading block at the 2011 Winter meetings
  • Here's what I don't like/understand about baseball.......

So these small market & low payroll teams like the Marlins and Twins get these in house stud players such as Cabrera and Santana then they can't afford them so they trade them for prospects to teams with big $$ and they "rebuild." But what happens in 2-5 years when these prospects that the Marlins and Twins get become studs themselves & are seeking a big contract? The same thing all over again. Will these team ever really be succefull without a cap? I don't know. Just seems like there could be a reoccurring theme.

Besides the God awful powder blue retro jerseys, is there anything blue about the Blue Jays anymore. I don't even see them listed as the "Blue Jays" anymore, just the "Jays".

I hate to say it, but it reminds me of the early 90's when the Minnesota North Stars changed their logo from the "N" w/ the star on it to just saying "Stars"...needless to say a season or two later they were packed and on their way to Dallas.

Well, you have to think the gms for both these teams have plans. They've been doing the same trading expensive players for prospects games for a longtime now and the Marlins won a World Series in 03 and the Twins have won 4 division titles in 6 years. So obviously, they have been dealing with this issue for a while.
