As i tuned into FSN for the UCLA-USC game, I was watching the final seconds of Wake Forest's victory over Duke. Final score 86-73 Wake Forest as they storm the court.

Georgetown should have lost the first game against 'cuse this year too.

my my how quickly things change in the ACC

tarheels tied for the lead all in matter of 3 days :)
  • ok guys, I have to ask about college bball. Now, I went to Duke for grad school, but never really got into the whole cameron craziness. My undergrad school was d-3 in all sports except skiing so...my question is, how do you have a favorite college basketball team if you didn't go to the school? Like why would care about one school over another if you didn't go there? I mean I've met people up here who went to whatever for college and are like "oh man you went to duke? they're my favorite team" or whatever. Why would they be your favorite team?

when you are a kid choosing teams to root for you tend to pick the one's that are on TV. The reason college teams have such big bandwagons is that they tend to maintain their level of dominance/popularity/TV time for years and years. For example, I root for UConn (never even been to Storrs), b/c when I lived in upstate-NY (defacto home for Syracuse fans) they were the team that gave them the most trouble. So, personnally, UConn gave me joy b/c I didn't have to hear about Suck U winning for a few days.

Further, sometimes when you are young, people gain an affection towards a distinct style of play that particular schools have...like UNLV, Michigan, or Princeton in early 1990's basketball, or Nebraska, Miami, Florida State (football) that also gains those schools a following.

The main thing here is that college teams are treated by many as the same as choosing professional teams, which is why going there doesn't really matter. The fact that you could care less about Duke even though you went there is equally as telling as people who love Duke even though they didn't.

    All good points.

I'd like to add that family can be another factor to root for or against a school/team. A parent being a big fan of a particular team can be a big influence on a child determining who they like and don't like. I know that's true in my case. My father was a big UNC Tar Heels fan and that was instilled in me at an early age. By the time I was 5 I was just as big a Tar Heels fan as he was. I didn't go to UNC and have only been to a handfull of UNC games, but I'm still a huge UNC fan to this day.

    totally '

i hope they're not hiding a more serious injury ?

but yes they def. have a chance to make a run in the tourney
where as duke cant live and die by the 3's
they're not built for a run
its just not gonna work come march

I hope not too. Although, I've heard some say that this is the first serious injury that's kept him out of a lot of games and that he's been nervous to test his ankle since it's still not 100% healthy.

If Duke goes cold any time in the tournament, they'll likely be going home. Coach Buy-A-Vowel should have developed his inside game with Thomas and Zoubek. Zoubek is a waste of 7'1" with as little as he has developed over the last two years.

when they can't shoot the 3, they have real problems.
that and I will never ever trust Paulus. He's a turnover machine.
    and Nelson played terrible.
Hopefully they get some size in the off season.
