Why do you think teams bring up pitchers from the minors???
You think if a team had (5) established starting pitchers that were all pitching well, they would spend the money to bring up a new pitcher.
They bring up people because the established pitcher that was in that spot before either was no good or got hurt.
That's exactly my point, and why you can only compare him to the other established starters in the league. Compared to the other established starters, he was slightly above average, but not to the "very very far" from average spot like you have been saying.
The last I remembered it was a 6 month season and not a 2 month season.
This is true, but didn't you say that at the end of last year he was one of the 25 best pitchers in the game? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last 2 months of the season would be at the end of last year.
Sorry I will take 15 wins, 200K's and 200 innings anytime.
By the way only (6) pitchers did that last year.
CC, Peavy, Harang, Vazquez, Santana and Dice.
Yea your right he was real average.
Sure, I'll take 15 wins and be very happy with that, but I sure as hell don't want his 12 losses that came with pitching for one of the top offenses. Wouldn't want that 4.40 ERA either. Strikeouts and all the rest of that crap are nice, but the only stats that really mean anything are their record and ERA.
Anyway, the whole point I was making with my original post was that this year is looking like he could have a record like 20-4 with an ERA under 3.00, which undoubtedly would be a vast improvement from last year and make him probably one of the top 3 or 4 pitchers in all of baseball.

Won-loss record and era have nothing to do with one another. Won-loss record is by far the most overrated category to judge a pitcher. I remember in 1987 when Nolan Ryan came in 5th in the CY Young voting when he led the league in era 2.76 and strikeouts 270 but was 8-16. Won loss record especially nowadays is too subjective to whether a bullpen can hold a lead, how a team is hitting when you pitch a good game, and luck.

Look at steroid man Clemens in 2005 with Hou. He went 13-8 in 32 games with a 1.87 era, 188 K's in 211 innings. He got NO RUN SUPPORT that season and finished 3rd in the Cy Young.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?

Randy Johnson came in 2nd to Clemens in 2004 with a nice 16-14 record but a 2.60 era.

I didn't say that those stats were related, just that they are the only stats that really mean anything. The combination of record and ERA can tell you a lot about the pitcher and/or team he plays for.
Dice was far from average last year.
He had 15 wins, 200K's and over 200 IP's.
Only (17) people had more wins and only (7) people had more K's.
Only (28) people pitched over 200 innings.
There are (150) starting pitchers in the majors.
Far from average.
The thing is, people's expectations for Daisuke is very high and wants to see jaw-dropping numbers. He's lived up to his hype, maybe not like LeBron James but this is baseball which is more of a team sport than basketball.
The only issue I have with Matsuzaka is his durability, he's not been able to pitch more than 5 innings consistently.

I'm starting to worry about the transition from pitching on 5 or more days rest his whole life until last year. His splits are really telling.
In 2007:
On 4 days rest:
5-7 5.29 ERA 27 BB 74 K in 81 2/3 IP
On 5 days rest:
9-4 3.83 ERA 45 BB 102 K in 103 1/3 IP
On 6+ days rest:
1-1 3.66 ERA 8 BB 25K in 19 2/3 IP
In 2008:
On 4 days rest:
3-0 4.70 ERA 16 BB 7 K in 15 1/3 IP
On 6+ days rest:
2-0 1.07 ERA 11 BB 26 K in 25 1/3 IP
The Oakland A's are the surprise team of the league. They were supposed to lose around 100 games but are still sitting in contention at 20-14 and only a game behind Anaheim. The A's will also had Rich Harden and Eric Chavez back to the team this month.
I think they can contend all year now especially readding the Big Hurt who never wanted to leave in the first place.
Also everyone of my Fantasy Players have been a bust: Papi (coming around however) Beltran, Andrew Jones, Cano, Tulowiski, Verlander, Putz. I thought I had a good team after the draft but now I'm not so sure.

In 2008 however, he has improved considerably. this year, noone has allowed more walks than Matsuzaka
When they said he was going to revolutionize pitching in America, who knew that meant walking everyone, and only pitching 5 innings per start?

Im suprised at the bush league playing of the St Louis Cardinals....being a longtime Houston Astros fan...Ive always RESPECTED the Cardinals and the way they play the game of baseball....but this year already there have been two instances of bench clearings and Pujols tried to pick a fight with Brandon Backe during batting practice in Houston.
with that said...I think they are playing good ball right now..all things considered.
Im also suprised at Lance Berkman's dominating performance when hes been a real slow starter for his whole career at the start of the season(.325 BA, 10 HR, 31 RBI, .702 SLG)
Im also suprised at Lance Berkman's dominating performance when hes been a real slow starter for his whole career at the start of the season(.325 BA, 10 HR, 31 RBI, .702 SLG)
Check out Berkman tonight:
5-5, 4 runs scored, 1 RBI 2 doubles, and 2 Steals. He's carrying one of my rotisserie teams. My team as a whole is 7-36.
Not really a surprise, and I just want to rub it to a few people here, but Boston is 9 games above .500!
Shutout win tonight over Detroit. Wakefield, 8 inning strong with only 2 hits allowed.
Nate McLouth hitting better than .330 with 9 HRs is pretty surprising. Hopefully he doesn't slow down too much.
Ian Snell becoming a pitcher who can't throw strikes is surprising. He's pretty much been the lone highlight out of the Pirates' starting rotation the last two seasons.
Nady leading the Buccos with more than 30 RBI and a .340+ BA. Again, I hope he keeps up the good mo.
I was also surprised to see Ryan Doumit finally getting a chance to play consistently.
Pittsburgh wanting to trade both Bay and Nady kind of surprises me because one of them should probably stick around. Rebuilding only happens after something has been built. This team has been rebuilding for the better part of a decade and a half.
The St. Louis Cardinals are still winning. LaRussa always seems to get the most out of his teams so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but still...
The play of both Florida teams, the Oakland A's, the Yankees, and the Royals have all surprised me.
The Arizona Diamondbacks leading MLB in hitting, fielding, and pitching during the opening month was not surprising -- it was amazing. And it was jealousy-inducing. That's how winning teams are built and I hope the Pirates can figure out how to do that themselves.
What isn't surprising is Adam LaRoche stinking it up in April yet again. I hated that guy when he was a Brave but I sucked it up and pulled for him when he came over from the ATL. Now I hate him again.
Zach Duke and pretty much all the Pirates starters turning every hitter into Tony Gwynn doesn't surprise me, unfortunately. Neither does my team being more than 5 games under .500.
The Red Sox/Yankees rivalry turning murderous doesn't surprise. Buckeyes v. Wolverines think you guys take that shit too seriously.
*Edit* And finally, Cubs fans acting like their team is the World Series winner in May doesn't surprise me. Long season, folks, and if the last century taught us anything it's that there are no champions in the first month.
