    While there is a good deal of crossover between the US’s white supremacist and gummint-is-evil segments, drawing that conclusion about Thomas would still be folly.

    Right, Thomas didn't agree with Obama's politics and therefore skipped the White House visit. Not sure why you had to interject skin color into the equation.
