Comeback player of the year? I know it may seem biased cuz I'm a Halos fan, but lets hear arguments for others to be considered. Obviously I have others in mind, but look what this guy has done considering his trainwreck of a season last year.....
let the debate begin

My vote as an admittedly biased Cubs fan would be for Kerry Wood. Tied for NL Saves lead after barely pitching at all as starter or reliever over the past 4 years.
Santana is having a fantastic year though. Are there separate awards for AL/NL?Obama/Biden '08!!!0 -

probably...there is for every other category. but Wood would be a possible candidate. Not sure as much of one as say Santana or even Josh Hamilton0 -

Hamilton has been absolutely sick this year... It will be interesting to see if he keeps it up in the 2nd half. He's got a chance to reach 200 RBIs this year! I thought he may have actually won last year in the NL but I could be wrong since he was injured for a good part of last season.Obama/Biden '08!!!0 -
He's on my fantasy team....0

Hamilton was good last year, so that would disqualify him for Comeback player.
Mike Mussina, (demoted to the bullpen for a stretch in 2007, though I don't think he made an appearance)
Cliff Lee (demoted to the minors in 2007)
Those are my top 2 nominees at the moment0 -

Santana never really had a drop off to be considered a comeback. Last year was a learning season for him as it was. He's yet to have a sub 4 ERA season, he threw for 200 innings once. This is really the start of his career as a veteran now.
Everyone knew that he was going to be a special pitcher...well those that follow baseball close enough, as he has the skill set to do it, it was just a matter of his mental aspect away from anaheim, and putting it together for a full season both on the road and at home, which he is now doing. This is his time to shine, and shining he is.
So as I see it, he doesn't qualify as a comeback player...it's too early into his career.0 -

Just thought of it as somethin' special so far this year, and a possible candidate if he continues to post numbers the way he is. Just an idea but wanted some others' thoughts on the situation. But besides this...WHAT A YEAR FOR BASEBALL SO FAR. So many great stories already...I love it!
But for his whole career, he's been completely terrible on the road as well. He's yet to have a complete season. So there's not much to say he's comeback from yet, he's just doing what he should have done finally. His 16 win season was based more on his run support than it was his pitching. This year they're winning because of his pitching. Him and Saunders are both Cy Young candidates, and it's about time they left Saunders in the rotation. They kept taking him out for it for whenever Escobar would come back for his 5 starts before hitting the D/L again.
It's a shame for Escobar though as well, he's really come into his own since coming to Anaheim and returning as a starter rather than being in the bullpen.
However it'll be a short October season again for the angels if they don't get their offense going.0 -

Yeah. And with Frankie on the team...wow, every game's an exciting game. If he does break the record, this will be the ugliest record breaking season of any out there. haha. At least he's getting it done, but damn, it's always something with him to create more pressure. It's gonna bite him in the ass sooner or later.0

kills me. he needs to just gas people the way he used to. tries to get fancy and next thing you know we're lookin' at a bases loaded 1 out 3-2 count. definitely hasnt been pretty but he's gettin it done and I'll take it.0
