  • If you're talking about Timothy Treadwell...not facinated, just miffed. He did nothing to help the grizzlies...and he really needed to go back on his medication...that's all. A sad and misguided soul...

That may be one reason why it is so fascinating. You can tell that he has isues. I don't know if he helped the grizzlies or not. I sure don't think he harmed them. I don't even think that is the issue. I think in the end, the "experts' have learned a lot from his journals. It is just so damn interesting IMO.

  • Well, a few had to be killed (not just the ones that ate him and his girlfriend)...he got them used to being around people, thus they had to be destroyed because they were no longer afraid of people.

Saw the show when it was on Discovery or something a couple of years ago and wow...yeah, it was interesting, but also a little creepy...

  • I saw the movie about Treadwell, but it is a lot different than the diaries. I think the diaries focus on his recordings and journals. The movie was more about the life of Treadwell. I like the diaries more than the movie.

As to his "taming" of the grizzlies I understand that is bad. However, in this case the Grizzlies were supposed to be in a preserve. No hunting was/in allowed. There were poaching which Treadwell worked hard to prevent, but of course, in such a large area he could not be totally successful. Also, nobody lived within hundreds of miles of this area (I don't think). Generally people had to be flown in and out to even access such a remote area. So there were no human inhabitants for the grizzlies to harm due to the "tameness." I think Treadwell was only known to be dead because the pilot that usually picked him up at the end of the summer season went to pick him up and discovered body parts or something. I know that they hunted down the grizzley that killed him. But what other grizzlies did they "have to kill?"

  • I'd read somewhere there were one or two he was involved with had to be shot due to coming too close to people in the preserve. A fed bear is a dead bear... or in this case, a fed by tread bear is a dead bear.

I guess the journals would be different because they would be purely from his point of view and not others' speculations or opinions....
