wow. isn't cruelty to animals considered the first sign of mental illness ?

hmmm... i'm pretty sure its when you set fire to your face? or staple your mother to a submarine?

How are you people even arguing about this?maybe he lived on a ranch? what the fuck ? who cares? what this kid did was wrong at any age. next some people are going to be saying, "oh he is just a kid, he doesn't know any better." maybe killing animals is commonplace where he comes from? yeah ok, bashing animals heads in is ok at any family ranch! woohoo!

if my kids grow up playing violent video games and watching violent tv, will it be "ok" if they go kill someone and now its excusable because we condone that kind of activity in my house?!!?? Give me a break.

jeeze I dunno, perhaps watching the ole man shoot, trap vermin or slaughtering pigs or chickens or or crocs or cows or lambs or sheep or ostrich might have an influence on how a person feels about animals in general, maybe even a 7 year old kid who is highly influenced by his father.

not saying its right. just saying the conclusions here about giving the kid a beating or feeding him to a croc are a bit extreme.

actually, if a person doesn't know the difference between what is right and what is what is wrong-and the commits a violent act, our society does excuse that behavior-its called not guilty by reason of insanity.

if you cant teach your kids the difference between what is a game or actors on TV, and they go out an kill someone, it just might be excused.

But of course, Im just playing devils advocate, which I love to do. I dont condone the kids actions, just saying, the kid could be mentally handicapped-YOU DONT KNOW.

totally agree. the people who say 'lets beat the kid up' or suggest throwing him to the crocs are just as bad... i mean its a kid?! he might have grown up the son of a hunter or something.

ok so he threw some rare Guatemalan pygmy hamster to a crocodile.. do you really want him dead, or do you really want to beat up a tiny kid? ... weird

if the kid is mentally challenged (as in retardation) he shouldn't have been left alone at *any* point.

at first my gut feeling was to feed him to the croc, but as i think about it, feed the *parents* to the croc and get that kid some help.

    classic
  • oh obviously people saying "lets throw the kid to the crocs" are way off base as well but naturally there is no excuse for a person of any age to treat ANYTHING like this, I know that at like the age of 2 right after my sister was born I knew that hurting her or anyone or anything is wrong. As for the argument of watching daddy slaughter animals, its ludicrous. even if that kind of behavior is common place then the dad is at fault for not setting the boundaries of " this is why were doing this to these animals, son , its not alright to do it anywhere else." and if anything kids that grow up on ranches and farms have MORE respect and love for animals then most people because of being raised around them.

the kid is 7-this is about the parents, how they are raising him and where the hell were they?

What kind of fucknubs leave their 7 year old unattended at the zoo?

the kid could have bolted into a crowd though...seems he was on a mission to feed the crocodile and got carried away into a primal blood lust for lizard meat..

  • I read this earlier today. Sad. The child seems very disturbed. Clearly there is some serious disfunction going on at home. Parents just don't seem what they used to be...jesus I sound like I am a hundred   :o

Empathy starts in childhood and this kid is in some serious lack of it. I hope there is an investigation into his parents.
  • Urgh. People can just be very violent. I was going to blame the youth of today but I remember my mum reading me a story when I was a kid about some young boys that cut a cats legs off and tied it to a firework... some people just live on a completely different planet!

if you're child has issues, and its not directly his/her fault for the actions they commit... then DONT. LEAVE. THEM. BY. THEM.SELVES.

there is a mentally handicapped person in my neighbourhood that has raped 2 women... his mom always makes a plea that he's mentally handicapped... so he's still allowed to roam around.

its unfortunate to be dealt by life with a loved one or relative who is mentally ill, but those are the cards life gave you. i have nothing but sympathy, if that is the case - that is to say, if you are looking for sympathy (what i mean is, some people don't see it as something to be sympathetic about) HOWEVER, it is simply ridiculous to let other people be in harms way and use it as an excuse.

But seriously, this is so wrong.
We have an ad playing at the moment on Aussie TV, it goes through sequences of bad behaviour from parents and how "Children See, Children Do"
Covers things like smoking, alcoholism, bashings, littering, abusing other people, abusing animals etc.
Like most of you have said, where were the parents?
    that is the problem...
