  • You can download it off itunes for $.99. Give Cat Power some support....that song is most certainly worth the price of a McDonalds double cheeseburger.

I don't really think anything on McDonald's menu is worth 99 cents.

"Evolution" and "Good Woman" are from her album You Are Free. Buy a copy.

Is not from a show. its in Cat Power's You are Free album... that one together with another track where Ed collaborated as well called Good Woman.

Both are for download on iTunes for $0.99 cents each ... it's not much to pay for 2 really great songs!

I agree there, great investment. Great album! I have it and Cat Power is fantastic!
  • good woman is amazing !!

Possibly the most heartrending breakup song I've ever heard.

Fuck iTunes. Go to a record store and buy the album - the actual physical object. The whole damn thing is amazing, plus the packaging looks (and feels) nice. You won't get that from iTunes...

  • A) ohh i thought you meant "evolution" as in DTE

    B) why is it that everytime someone asks for someone to send them one damn song everyones all like "go buy the album"?... im all for supporting bands but im not gonna invest til i know what im getting... and quite frankly these days i dont BUY music unless theyre a band i truly like... i know im probably a dick for stealing music but being addicted to music is too expensive otherwise and i always support people by going to their shows

Hey, I "steal" my fare share of music too! (the guilt keeps me up at night, sometimes...) but really - I Am Free is more than worth the investment. Normally, I would just send the song, but you'll thank me... and everyone else who recommended it.

I completely agree with you as far as the album, I love her music and own every single one of her albums and am impatiently waiting for the new release next week! :D

But.... Cat Power doesnt appeal to everyone as some people find her to mellow.. so I think iTunes or any other music service is a good option to still support the band and listen to a couple of songs before you commit to buying the entire album... IMO

I agree with this as well. I dont think you should go buy the album if you dont even know if you are going to like it.. but come on 0.99 cents is not a whole lot now is it? ;) and its a good way to support bands :) just my 2 cents

well what happens if i get the 2 songs recommended on here for .99 and then end up liking them so much i want the rest... then i cant just buy the whole album for 9.99 without getting repeats... then i have to buy each song individually for .99 and it ends up costing more! now you see my dilemma :D

Buying the album in this case may be a far wiser way to support her, considering you might be paying money to see her mumble a few lyrics, strum a few chords, and then go sit in the dark cos she doesn't really perform too well in public.

I say "buy a copy" because I don't think $12-15 is too much to support an independent artist who deserves more attention. You already know you like Ed, so the album surely wouldn't be a complete mistake.

I also think it's unfortunate that to many people on this website Cat Power is going to be seen as no more than Eddie's duet partner and her work is nothing more than a "b-side." I'm not saying the latter applies to anyone in this thread specifically, but I've noticed a certain trend around here.

I too have a music addiction. One solution for me has been this website:

    http://www.emusic.com

You can buy a subscription ranging from $10.00-20.00 a month and download multiple albums for the price of one CD. And it just so happens that You Are Free and many more of Cat Power's CD's are available there. It's great place for checking out independent artists while still paying for the music at an affordable price. And of course you can listen to samples. I joined after taking them up on a free offer. I'm now obsessed.

Another great option is live music torrents - listen to a live performance to see what you think.

    Gotta love the internet.

You can actually do "finish my album" and get the rest of the album minus the money you've already spent.

That's her reputation alright, but when I saw her a few months ago she was incredible. Full soul band and she was prowling the stage like a... well, like a cat. (or a fox ;)) She was an amazing performer that night.

I listen to You Are Free far, far more than Riot Act. Actually, Riot Act and Ten combined. Brilliant album. She's so frikking fragile on the album, I really don't blame her for not being able to translate that to when she's playing in a room with a spotlight and all these stranger's eyes on her.

Listening to the album, you can't help but feel she's just about to crack. I've got a fair collection, and there's just one other record that rivals this one for sheer emotionality- Nick Drake's Pink Moon, and of course Nick topped himself shortly after making Pink Moon.

Listening to Good Woman and Evolution just cos Ed's on it, without giving the rest of the album a go- I reckon that's just outright criminal.

There's only one way to find out.

Well, that's actually not true. But there's only one way to find out without losing your soul...
