Wouldn't that then be "the worst non-call ever"?

I used to ref soccer and offisides is easily one of the thoughest calls to make. As an American I am ashamed that this sport hasn't grown in popularity.

that was an ugly non-call! the second goal as amazingthough, on the counter attack. score should be 1-0.

I hope they dont do that, would be too much stop and start, cant be bothered with that. These things even themselves out. Italy have had enough dodgy descisions to last them a life time.

i agree..the second goal was unbeatable, it was amazing...but it should be only 1-0...if we lose by a goal ill be pissed

and NO to instant replay...and for someone to say that offsides is hard to callin soccer, it is but in that situation, it was SO obvious

Its slowly growing in the US, its not like everywhere else in the world yet but give it time. I ended up watching the US-Argentina match last night instead of the NBA finals, something I would never have done ten years ago.

what about a video ref like they have in rugby... only when the ref asks for it... or in the event of goals or something to make sure they were alright. Great as it is to win a match, it takes SOME of the good out of it when your goal shouldn't have been allowed and it gives the other team a kinda moral victory.

According to what ive read today, Pannuci was playing him onside because he hadnt left the field with the ref's permission. Its news to me but apparently a defender has to return immediately as he is still classed as active, therefore the goal is perfectly legal!

I dont know. Rugby has a lot more stoppages in it anyway so it was easier to implement. I think it would be a lot more noticeable in football. The managers that are asking for this should look back at all the dodgy decisions they've got over the years and weigh them against the ones that have gone against them and they'd probably see it kinda balances out.

I hated getting called for offsides in football. When I was younger we'd have idiot weekend refs that would call offsides incorrectly all the time. I'd always time my runs and the refs would never get it right. They'd see you behind the defense waiting for the ball even though when it was passed I'd always be onside.

i agree with the decision. it's harsh but its the law of the game. Panucci was playing Ruud onside.

Stu I know what ya mean... but it shouldn't have to balance itself out cos you shouldn't think 'well we got the benefit of the doubt in our last friendly so it's ok that this legitimate goal in the world cup final was disallowed' :o ... and there would be a stoppage if there's a goal anyway so it would take less than a minute to consult a video ref. I mean, rugby refs only go to the video ref in the case of a try or potential try.

I still think that its been fine for years so why change it. It would make it more complicated. Who decides what decisions go to replay? The ref im assuming, but then we have manager's moaning about what decisions go to replay and which dont. I just think it would take a lot of the excitement out. Any goal mouth scrambles when the ball is clattering about you'll just be waiting for the whistle to go if there's a handball call, and then what happens when its found out that its not a handball, or its unintentional, and how do they determine if its intentional as it always looks more intentional in slow motion!! How would they restart it in that siuation as well? Drop ball 6 yards out? I think it will be more trouble than its worth.

I doesnt matter if he's a defender apparently, he's still active and off the pitch without permission so he's playing them onside, that's the official word.

from a man in black:- ;)

"The player was not offside because in addition to the goalkeeper there was another Italian player in front of the goalscorer. Even though he had fallen off the pitch his position was still relevant for the purposes of the offside law."

In any attacking situation which may lead to a goal, continue play til the threat is over... then look at the video. This would make it more exciting IMO... nothing worse than a ref stopping play when it's clear it should have continued! And if there IS a goal and it shouldn't have been... all they do is give the kick out/corner/whatever.

Exactly. Italy are the worst cheats in football so i couldnt care if it was legitimate or not. They have had some decisions go in their favour in their time, one in particular springs to mind, the bastards. lol
