they will surf again

I’m just excited because they’re coming to my area and wanted to share my excitement with you!

….assist people with disabilities to surf! I’m thinking about doing it. I have CP and love the water. I’ve been tubing and such before.

You know when a ‘what would you ask Ed if you met him?’ thread pops up? For awhile now I had this topic I would love to talk to him about…. I’d ask him since he’s so into surfing, did he know of a virtual reality surfing machine? Funny question I know, but that’s one of the things I’d ask him! Then I stumble across a flyer about this! Way better than virtual reality.

here’s two videos showing how they do it.

Thats just awesome - go for gold.

I spent a sunday a few years ago teaching the kids from The Spastic Centre here in sydney the same thing and they just had the time of there lives. Fond memories.

The ocean is a magical place.

Alright, I got all my pics and video together.

First let me say is the best thing about this day was people helping people. Simple, but it brought tears to my eyes. It really made me feel good about the world again. At least for a little awhile. A few of my friends came out to watch and that made me feel really good too. Brian was really supportive too from day one when I told him about the flyer.

8.9.08 - They Will Surf Again – Sandbridge in Virginia Beach

I experienced something I thought I never would….I surfed! I went out twice, and in all caught about 7 or 8 waves. Got bruised and skinned up but that just made it feel all that more awesome! I was one of two girls there, the rest of the surfers were guys. I was not scared at all. Once they got me past the breakers I told them I gotta get my breath. They thought I was saying I couldn’t breathe. Ha! They quickly understood. As we were waiting for a wave, somebody asked me if I wanted a coke. How about a margarita? My nickname is margarita girl now. Hehehe. My friend Christie said she would try it next year. Seth, one of the program managers came to talk with me. He had came all the way from California. I told him how much this meant to me. He said hopefully a squad would form now. I hope so! I want to surf again now!

Video. Click high quality and hopefully you’ll be able to see me.

That was SOO cool!:D It definitely made my night. You have seriously the biggest smile I've ever seen in that video and the photos.:D It looks like you had the time of your life. What an awesome organization, I never knew anything like this was even possible until you posted it. :) I surfed for the first time when I saw Pearl Jam in Hawaii.. and these videos totally make me want to go again. Thanks so much for sharing, hope you can surf again soon. (and me too:p)

Oh and I agree with the thread title, Eddie would absolutely LOVE seeing this. :)

*Damnit, this type of post is the reason there should not be a limit on the amount of smiley faces we can use!

Just done the reading and Ill do the watching later today.

Stoked that you had so much fun. Good shit!!!!!!!!!

Nice work on the bruises too - consider it lucky. A close mate at age 16 got nailed and his fin made his (how do I say this) **cough)** anal hole larger than it should. He had 8 stitches where the sun dont shine. 15 years ago that was and his nickname (which even his parents call him)....FinnChop or Fatty Finn or just Fin. :D
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

Great photos so far. Did you end up making it onto the wave in your picture titled "Im Loving It"???? Looks like you may have had a little freefall just about to happen

It was smiles galore that day. Everybody had em.

I didn’t think it was possible either and I’ve been disabled all my life. I think I would’ve heard about it by now. I have to admit I had no idea how they did it. I pictured a plastic chair taped to the board. How silly is that?! It’s a good thing for youtube, because I don’t think I would have signed up if I didn’t see it first.

That is killer you surfed in Hawaii!
Maybe Eddie will here about thru word of mouth because of my post. Hehehe

    DonJon:
    That’s awful! Lmao!!
I don’t remember what happened after that picture. I did slide off the board at one point thou. Fun!
Cowabunga……..huh……so you understood me. Good. Ha! I hate watching myself on video. Ya’ll are lucky I left that in.

    To everybody:
Check out on that site if they’re coming near you. Volunteer. You won’t be sorry. It’s a great experience.

It was aweful at the time but we still have a good laugh about it.

From the picy it looked like you were high on the wave so I thought 'oops here comes a bit of a drop for her'.

    Course I understood you.

Will you get a chance to do it again? They must come round every year or so..

    What beach was that also?
