Anyone here still play the SNES? I have a question

I found a ton of old SNES games and thought I would set up the SNES for my kids to see the greatest game system ever. Of course I couldn't find the SNES but my daughter works at a game/dvd/cd store so she bought one for cheap.

So we get it all set up and are playing games and some games will save but then when we go back to play there are no saved games.

Do you think the battery packs in the games are too old?

I found Earthbound and hope the saves work on it. I think they will since it still had saved games on it. LOVE that game!

My Mario All Stars is broke again. You can change the control buttons around so that the B button is dash not jump. I can not play the game like that, B must be the jump button. Way back when I first bought it and it broke I called Nintendo and they fixed it for free. Well it is broke again, think Nintendo will fix it :D I told my kids I was going to email them and see what they say.

Yeah I guess the rather primitive memory system has just gone over time. What amuses me is how durable these systems were in general though. My NES still works. Sometimes takes a lot of the classic blowing on the cartridges and inside the slot to get it going (this sounds like terrible sexual innuendo) but it still works, unlike my first PS2 which died after a mere 2 years.

Yep. It happens to GameBoy games too...

I know it's not the same at all, but you could download a snes emulator from the net and the roms (games) to go with it. Then you play em on your pc...

So no chance these games will ever save again?

They are playing Yoshi's Island(where the yoshis carry baby Mario on their back) and we keep having to start over. Kind of a pain. I guess we could try to play thru the whole game in one day, taking turns.

i dont know if its the same thing after the battery dies, but i heard if you plug in the games every year or so it would recharge the battery so the saves wouldnt be lost. so maybe leave the games in for a few hours and see if it recharges them again.

Very few games implemented rechargeable batteries. The charging mechanism produced too much heat, which led to game hangs and crashes.

Me and YI go way back. I got 100% in all the levels at some point and still wanted to play more. Shows what a great game it is. That game is long though even just running through it. Some of it is hard too. Get that save fixed ;)

Boy I wish I had a SNES. I have an NES which I cleaned so now it works pretty well. But just recently one of my cats pissed on the plastic bag I had my games sitting in. They stink now... Damn cat. .

Hope the battery changing works for ya!

What is it with cats and peeing on Nintendo games? We had a cat that went out of its way to pee on Zelda Link to the Past.
