Finishing Your Basement

Has anyone ever done this?

How do I get started? I'm not a very good handy-man, but my basement is half-finished and it would be really nice to have more room. It has nice steps, a division wall (very nice) between the laundry room and the "other room" (soon to be TV room), tiled floor throughout... but there's no ceiling and the cement walls are ugly.

Those last two are what I would like to accomplish. But, I have no clue what to do.

If you are not "handy" it could turn out bad. Having said that..

Drop ceilings are not to hard. You are basically installing a grid and droping tiles in.

Framing the walls can be fun especially if you have 110 outlets that need to be re-mounted with "e-z" mounted boxes. If you are going with a T-11 type material you can use 2" studs as apposed to 4".

Drywall hanging is easy..finishing is not.

i've been staring down the barrel of this project for a couple years now...don't have the $$ to do it yet. or the know-how.
I love to turn you on
  • call one of your buddies who is handy and sheet rock the wall and put a drop ceiling in. It's a two person job and will take a week or two, but you'll save $$$ this way.

I haven't, but googled, and there are a ton of diy sites with directions/suggestions, etc. Good luck. :)
