Controlling Dreams

Has anyone ever had been "in" a dream state, then realized that they were dreaming, and controlled their dream afterwards.

I have. I was falling from the sky, when I realized it was just a dream. I obviously, didn't want to wake up so, I started flying around, swooping by trees and whatnot. It was awesome.

I do it all the time. In fact it happens about 25% of the time for me. I realize that my dream is just that (whether it be so unrealistic, or I do something within the dream that seems obscure) and alter it. Within my dream I'm always like "Thats ok, it's just a dream".

The word you're looking for is lucid dreams.

I've had it a few times. Usually when I'm dreaming of horror films.

I did this all the time when I was a kid. Somewhere along the line, I lost this ability. :(

yes! One of my first lucid dreams was horror related. Vampire to be exact. I was hunted by one, we started to fight and I was trying to avoid getting my neck bit, (because you know, I didn't wanna 'turn' and shit) anyway I came to the understanding that I was in fact dreaming, I looked around and was aware of my situation. I then in turn was able to fight back. I had good control of that dream. Was fun!

did it a handful of times after that. (Sometimes flying)

I also had one of these once. Pretty damn cool. ;-)

Would be awesome if I could do this all the time.
  • I have these at least once a week...I love just being able to hover off the ground, and then just zoom off into the sky. There's a peaceful state that this brings to you, I'm not sure how you start doing it, but once you do, it's a strange world that you can begin to explore.

    Look up Lucid Dreaming online.

    I just did. Pretty cool.

The trick I used was to look at my palms very closely. Supposedly there's so much info in our fingerprints/palm prints that our brain can't replicate it all in the dream. So, that's when I knew it was BS. And I was like, "F this falling from the sky crap, I think I'm going to fly around for bit."

I remember a documentary about this subject. These researchers created a pair of goggles that could detect when a person is experiencing REM via the fluttering eyelids.

When the goggles detected the fluttering eyelids, the lenses would light up in an orange color and start blinking.

The person wearing the goggles would notice the blinking orange light in his dream and realize what was going on without actually waking up.

Same - I used to be able to do this. Flying in dreams was the coolest thing ever! However, for some reason, I always flew about 10 feet above whatever it was - so to fly over a building I'd go up the side - across the top - and back down. Not sure why???

Now I can't do it anymore - I realize I'm dreaming but then wake up. In fact - in a recent dream I recall yelling at EV because he was telling me it was private property but I had paid good money to rent this cabin in the woods...ah TMI. I just remember waking up thinking I had EV in a dream and I yelled at him and told him to fuck off???

I've done this only one time that I can remember.

And yes, I tried to fly :D

I was in a vast open meadow with hills, as far as I could see. So I tried to fly but for some reason I could only go about 100 feet each time. I would just slowly come back down.

I can often control myself in dreams, its really weird. I can also sometimes wake myself up if i want to. For example, i can sometimes get a feeling in a dream that something bad or scary is going to happen, and even although im sleeping, in order to wake myself i can count to myself 1,2,3 and then shout out, which wakes me up. Its really weird!!!
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.
