"The Happening"

well... M. Night did it again... given his track record i dont know why i should be surprised... he only had one good movie and hes been riding the success from that for his entire career... along with making decent trailers that make his movies look much more exciting than they really are

this was BY FAR his WORST movie yet! the story had potential, but with George Lucas-esque arrogance he wrote the script himself instead of finding a compentent person to bring his vision to fruition... and it is CRINGEWORTHY and LAUGHABLE!

its more of a 1.5 hour global warming propaganda ad than "happy feet" (i know global warmings real but i dont wanna see a "scary" movie about it) and does it in such a blatant fashion that the end of the movie SUCKS more than every preceeding minute

they try to work in this suffering relationship between marky mark and the elf girl (as if anyone would give a FUCK about your failing marraige while trying to save their own life) and there is ZERO chemistry between them

M. Night goes COMPLETELY overboard with "my first R rated movie"... the violence is over the top and just disgusting to watch unless youre one of those people that jerk off to gross.com all day long... i mean, he shows a man get run over by a large lawn mower... and who shoots themselves in the front of the forehead?? i understand the aesthetic purpose of seeing the hole but itd be much more comfortable at the temple or under the chin

***SPOILER ALERT****

THE TREES ARE THE ONES MAKING PEOPLE KILL THEMSELVES! THEY RELEASE A CHEMICAL INTO THE AIR... TO WARN US TO STOP POLLUTING... HA

Anyway... just trying to save people time and money and hopefully put an end to this M. Night's career once and for all... i went and saw the Hulk right after just to get my moneys worth and get the taste out of my mouth and that movie was SWEET... edward norton can take even the shittiest role (i never liked the Hulk) and make it enjoyable... definitely the best actor out there right now

I decided to see the Hulk and skip 'the happening' this weekend.
Anyway, Batman is the movie to see next. that's gonna be great.
All other movies right now are just fillers.

regardless of whether you liked the story or its moral... was it not the worst acting / screenplay ever??? the dialogue was like something out of a bad porno... minus the sex scenes

I agree, the acting and dialogue was absolutely terrible. The film's premise was interesting, and the first few minutes were good but from then on it was awful.

I heard the surprise ending is the audience gets bored to death.

it was definitely the longest 1.5 hours of my life... and thats short for a movie... i was thinking an hour into it... oh shit... theres probably still another hour left... thank god there wasnt... i was holding out hope the whole time though that the ending would redeem the rest of it... it was actually the worst part

of course it could have been better, but when you knock the door down with the 6th scense as your first movie, how much will really compare?

with that said, Signs is my favorite of his movies, and Unbreakable is my second. then 6th sense. didnt dig the village or lady in the water so much.

m night sucks ass. plain and simple. the dead people movie was OK, and after that its been garbage after garbage. I saw the alien movie Signs in the theatre. I actually wanted to find m night and kill him myself.

    most overrated director ever.

i think all his movies have a fair amount of potential... with the exception of lady in the water... the village was a blatant ripoff of the book "running out of time" which i read in 4th grade... i cant pinpoint what i didnt like about signs but considering it had 2 of my favorite actors and still didnt do anything for me was reason enough to hate it... unbreakable spent too much time building to nothing... M. Night seems to just come up with a concept for a movie and go from there... kindof like how jerry bruckheimer bases entire movies around action sequences instead of story... i could never take direction from someone so stubborn in his "vision" that hes unable to allow actors to improv and improve his shit scripts...

the point of my thread like someone already said... by FAR the most overrated director... he can only ride his name so much further... i think this film will be the last straw for many

The problem with Night is that he is a average director and an abysmal writer. If he turned down the arrogance a notch and got some good screenplays instead of playing auteur all the time with perpetually underwhelming results, he might eventually make a halfway decent film.

My boyfriend writes a movie review column and went to see it this afternoon. All he said was "it sucked." I can't wait to see him rip it in his column- I really don't care for M Night's movies to begin with (Signs ranks high on the list of movies that I never want to see again.) Somehow the spoiler sounds like exactly what I would expect out of one of his movies.

I thought The Sixth Sense and Signs were brilliant! Everything else sucked ass, especially the Lady in the Water.
