Oy I am a bit nervous as I have a phone interview tomorrow!! I really want this job and it would be sweet to already have a job lined up out there. I have been on Monster etc but does anyone do hiring or aced an interview that would like to offer any "MUST DO" advice? Thanks

Interview Don'ts:
- Smoke weed
- Take mushrooms
- Get drunk.
- Eat glue.
- Eat Thai.
- Inhale gasoline.
- Defecate on interviewer's desk.
- Wear a black belt with brown shoes.
Of course, that's if you want the job. If not, have at it.0 -
Calm down, try not too worry so much. I'm sure you will do just fine!!
Good luck..

A phone interview huh? I've never done one of those as I always gave a test, but the one thing I did appreciate was getting a card or note as a follow up. Just a short thank you, summation of what was discussed and why you are qualified, want the job, etc. Let us know how it turns out and Good Luck!"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0

Is that why I didn't get that last job?
Thanks, in_hiding!!! I have a positive vibe but I don't want to jinx myself0 -

Ok, well I've not done a phone interview but I can give you a few little tips about phone ettiquette from my finishing school days (DO NOT LAUGH!
)
You can hear if a person is smiling when they speak, so smile.
Listen and take a breath before you answer, it's ok if there is a small delay.
Remove all distractions around you. So turn of your mobile, the tele, the radio, lock up the dog etc.
Get yourself a comfortable spot to sit with paper, a pen, a glass of water and tissues handy.
Write down any questions you may have and also a few anecdotal things about yourself that you might use if needed. Also go through the interview in your mind before it starts and formulate some answers to questions you may be asked. If they have given a job description think about how to best respond to all the things they are looking for. Make notes of why you are the best person for the job. Keep it with you by the phone.
Don't panic and remember they'd be lucky to have you.
OH and Suze, DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE AND SMILE!
Good luck, may the force be with you!
Now get to bed!

research the company so that you can ask a few questions of the interviewer (not interrogating though)...it shows interest, obviously, and that you'd like to remain with the company for awhile. it's something that i look for when hiring
you'll do fantastic i'm sure. jeanie gave some excellent advice. also, if you're going to take the interview from a cell phone, make sure you have a full battery and good reception!!
good luck!!yes...i do feel like a human. i do not feel like a tree.0 -

Yeah it's ok. Most people that know me think it's hysterical that I went to finishing school!
Although I have been complimented on my lady like behaviour on more than one occasion. Not that you'd know at the pub or the footy. I never did use what I'd learned in that "how to enter and exit a limousine" lesson though!

Wow, congrats and good luck!
I've got an interview on Friday... I'm really nervous! It's in German, my third language, eek! Been looking on Monster myself... Smile and be polite is what they seem to say. And make eye contact, but you don't need to worry about that one! Or the shaking of hands!Like a cloud dropping rain

I have done three phone interviews only - the first one didn't go well but the second two did and I went to the second round.
Eliminate all distractions: go in a room and pretend you have the person interviewing in front of you (that mind trick seemed to work for me) so you can concentrate fully.
Have your questions written up before - but that's valid for any interview.
Do not be afraid to ask them to repeat the question - well, this especially works if it's in a foreign language.
And I like Jeanie's suggestion to smile, even if it is to the phone!
Very best of luck STB!0 -
oh best of luck stb and lgt
I've no tips I'm afraid other than what's already been said but it all seems like advice worth heeding. You'll be fineThe Astoria??? Orgazmic!

I have not read all the responses but i did notice someone mentioned to sit down for the interview. I would not suggest that.
There has been plenty of research that has pointed people speak more confidently and when they are standing. If you are sitting you can get too relax and fall in to an ease that you don't want to be on an interview.
I always used to do my phone interviews in my kitchen so i could lean on the counter and write if i needed to.
Good luck I hope it goes well.Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -
Thanks for all the good wishes and positive vibes. Also got some good tips
And good luck to Riot Rain too0 -
As someone who has been doing the interviewing for an open position on my team the last few weeks, one key tip that I look for is showing a good knowledge of the position and responsibilities, as well as background of the company. For example, I often ask, "What about this position interests you?", and 9 times out of 10, I'll get a standard response along the lines of "It seems challenging", or "It'll be a good learning experience". To me, that sounds like you have no idea what the job is about.
Good Luck and relax!"If you love someone, set them free... if someone loves you, don't fuck up" - EV0
