How sad :( I realize there is plenty of sad news out there but this happened her in "my" city . Clearly he fled the scene because he was impaired and scared but jaysus... maybe he should have kept his stupid, drunk ass at home.

One of my friend had to punch another friend in the eye because he thought about driving after a night out on the bars. He showed up to work with a black eye but he was ALIVE. So if you know a friend about to drive drunk, just punch him in the eye and take the keys.

Yep you do what you have to do. Good for your friend !!

Anyone see the interesting social scenarios they did on 20/20 and Oprah? They did one in relation to drunk driving. Had actors pretending to be drunk and EVERYONE tried to prevent him from driving. Interesting the guy yelling and screaming at his girlfriend and kicking her... NOBODY stopped. Some even said "there is a time and a place... " and they say misogyny is dead

Anyway yes it is all so preventable. This family has been torn apart by this.

  • That's just so sad. It makes you really think about not being promised tomorrow. :(

My best friend was killed by a drunk driver in 1995. Very sad. The driver had been given a ride home from the bar she was at and then decided to drive who knows where and crossed over into my friends lane/car. She ended up spending only 6 months in jail. :(

I am sorry to hear that, D :( The sentencing just is not right. One of my dearest friends, her sister was killed by a drunk driver at eight... a stone's throw from their home. No jail time.. back in the 70's I doubt it was even illegal and it is sad to see that it hasn't come much further over the years. I have a friend and her mum was an accident in which their car was hit by a drunk driver. She wasn't killed but it buggered up her ankle and really impaired her to ever to be able to work again. They couldn't even suspend his license as he no longer had one... something like his tenth conviction. Terrible. Such senseless losses as abook said.. we really aren't promised tomorrow.

    Damn...that totally suck!

I think we can always blame the drunk drivers but I always had this feeling of making an effort to GET the bar owners and waiters/waitresses involved in this.

I know their goal is to make money and make sure people have a good time but they should be more concern with the people after the bar is close as well.

I'm not really big in the bar scene so I don't know if they are involve in these awareness services with their customers.

Yep, you see the same people over and over, it's just sad. Our local cab company posted a sign that a cab ride from Bellingham, WA to New York City would be cheaper than one DUI. I really don't know why people, especially the celebrities, keep on doing it. I guess they are drunk! lol The thing that got me on my friend's case was that she did have responsible friends that made sure she didn't drive home, got her home safely, then she decided to go out again. Make sure if you drive someone home you hide their keys from them! :)
