Having lived down there and experiencing the aftereffects (2 months no power, hardly any work and food, MUCH damage in south beach) I wanna just make sure people are ok and bracing themselves accordingly. Move if you have to for a bit, Board up your house, get supplies, the whole 9 yards..don't get caught out there southerners. Keeping my fngers crossed for all of you

It's so weird and ironic that it's going to happen just as the GOP gathers to pat each other and themselves on the back for a week.

Man Gustav is fierce, i was just in Jamaica the place of my birth killing 11, then it's hitting Grand Cayman right now. I was there too, two beautiful islands being devastated by ths storm.

Now heading to the *Big Easy* on RNC night. Is that Deja Vu or is that ironic? Be safe this time.

  • New Orleans just doesn't seem like a smart place to live. Being below sea level where hurricanes are likely is not a good combination.

"Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal warned residents Saturday afternoon that the state "could see flooding worse than Hurricane Katrina," as Gustav approached the Gulf Coast."

    Worse than Katrina!!
  • stickboystickboy Posts: 2,981
damn 82 dead now and winds officially at 150 mph as it enters Cuba. Category 5 storm as of now until it makes landfall..can either get worse or weaken...jeez...this shits freaking me out. Scarier and worse than Katrina

    edit-ok nvm, just saw this:
HAVANA - Gustav howled into Cuba's Isla de Juventud as a monstrous Category 4 hurricane on Saturday while both Cubans and Americans scrambled to flee the path of the fast-growing storm.
Forecasters said Gustav was just short of becoming a top-scale Category 5 hurricane as it powered its way toward mainland Cuba, where authorities were hurriedly evacuating more than 240,000 people from the nation's tobacco-rich western tip.

Very cool of you to do that.

I hope everyone takes care. Very scary. I can't imagine it being worse than Katrina, scary stuff indeed. All the best to those in the path of Gustav.

At least they seem a little more prepared with plans this time around. I pray it does not turn out as bad at all and just falls apart.

I hope so too, I said a prayer it takes a turn and doesn't hit New Orleans. That would be horrible. I'm about to put on the news. ...

hope you're right. I have 5 friends that are staying in my apartment now until at LEAST wednesday cause they go to school in N.O.. while I'm not too fond of "hosting" them for so long, I know that I would really appreciate someone else taking me in if I had nowhere else to go. and they're all good people so it's been fun.

seriously though, when this thing hits the Gulf, who knows what's gonna happen, but the only thing that's certain is that it will definitely get stronger.

    Whoa! That's BIG!
They said the eye is 24 miles wide!

I feel so bad for all those people that have to evacuate.
I also feel bad for the news reporters they assign that have to stay there and cover it.
