Christmas Dinner in NYC

I'll be spending both Christmas and New Year at NYC with my mom, she's flying all the way here to spend a week with me, and I want to take her to a cool place, the thing is we don't want to spend thaaat much money.
Any ideas?
(She's not into fancy places as much as artsy ones, just like me)

    I have never been to NYC, so I couldn't help you. It sounds like it willl be fun though. I bet it's the most beautiful this time of the year!! :)

    Depending on where in NYC you want to be and what type of food you want... there are only about 10,000 restaurants in NYC to appease almost every appetite and budget...give me some perameters and i would be happy to make a suggestion or two.

    the thing about NYC is that there are two types of restaurants in my experience

    great outstanding expensive ones
    and great outstanding inexpensive ones

    its the middle ground where I am constantly dissapointed

    you like Japanese
    try these two in the east village
    sobaya (noodles and small dishes)
    shabutatsu (Japanese BBQ and Shabu shabu)

    both are delicious and reasonable

    Republic is in Union Square... .Asian Fusion... Very Good Food, cool atmosphere, reasonably priced.
