oh come on!
as if 14p will make ANY difference to you buying a bottle!
even if you were drinking 1 every day that would make £1/week!0 -

It's a stupid hike. As if adding 4p onto a pint and 14p onto a bottle of wine is going to stop any binge drinkers. They're just adding on tax for the sake of it. Unless they add 2 or 3 quid onto a pint it's not going to make the faintest difference. The binge drinking excuse is a bit stupid to say the least.Paul

like the ciggies..unless it goes up by 50p or a £1, people will moan then just cough up.
but hey, on the bright side, next month the basic income tax rate goes down to 20% apparently!!0 -
Could be worse - you could live in Dublin! You always have cheaper drink :( More expensive drink hasn't stopped our drinking though - we just drink more at home instead, go to pubs a li'l tipsy and spend less there.0

lol. wine prices went up and the excuse is that it'll stop/prevent/whatever binge drinking. binge drinking meaning very heavy comsumption of alcohol.
any clearer?"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -

The government are never going to solve the problem of 'binge drinking'. Alcohol is a drug. People take drugs to get intoxicated. Getting intoxicated is binge drinking. So really the only way to stop it is to change all alcoholic drinks into non-alcoholic drinks... does anyone really drink spirits for the taste?!Paul
